Cosworth KA - 2015.......what to do??
#1965
Done a bit more work in the quest for better handling and reliability.
Firstly changed wheels again,*Going to stick with a standard size/offset from now on as I don't think I've done a trackday on the same wheels yet
Now on another set of Speedlines fitted *with Federal RSR 595s
Even washed it*
Secondly removed the suspension and sent it to Gaz for a full service, check over and an assessment of the spring rates( I knew fronts were 325lb, but rears were unknown).
A bent rear piston rod was replaced, all units serviced and new springs were fitted (400lb front, 225lb rear).
Having still not got round to making rose jointed adjustable lower arms, I replaced the tired ones with a pair if new ones. Unfortunately this restricts me to a maximum of 1.5 degrees negative camber.
Had a full geometry check conducted and did some tweaking to ensure the thrust angle was as close to zero as possible.*
Suspension alignment
Went down to the Cornwall RSOC Regional Day @ Little Bodieve Holiday Park in Wadebridge
Loaded up for Cornwall RSOC
Camping
Beauty and The Beast
Took a run upto to Paignton with a few friends in a selection of interesting cars...
V10 R8, RS6 and a rather amusing kit car with a turbo'd Busa engine*
Unfortunately a wheel imbalance prevented any fun. Cleaning disc mounting faces and wheels, checked wheel balance and annoyingly the problem has mysteriously gone away.*
Whilst trying to cure the phantom overheating problems last year (head gasket had gone) I had the header tank enlarged, which put it closer to the turbo, so Marc aka M.K with the JWRC Fiesta kindly made this little number
Relocated under the scuttle and few minor mods to plumbing.

So onto Bristol and Swindon RSOC @ Castle Combe...
An early start was needed as I didn't camp due to uncertainty over the weather. I don't mind being tired, but cold and wet is a no,no
A wet start to the day meant the track was like glass, any sign of boost and it was spin spin spin. So steady start, especially for Lo@der with his new 500+bhp SCS engine
Dried up after lunch and had a good few sessions, and made some usefull adjustments to the suspension.
However turning in too early and clipping the curb at Camp resulted in a little off

New sponsor*
And the Devon RSOC traditional Cake @ Combe was taken up a level*
Big thanks to Kate @ JKM Performance for providing an excellent service from the kitchen as well as the workshop
Nom, nom, nom......
Next stop, Donington for RSOC National Day next Sunday

And couple of Gopros for outside, although the one seems to have a dodgy battery
Going to get a pair of spare batteries for weekend.
You doing Nat Day?

With the weather looking 'changable' made the journey to Donington for RSOC National Day.
Unloaded the car and went off to sign on and get briefing.
Went out for first session, did the two sighting laps and then began to up the pace.
Then after two laps, coming onto the main straight there was a sudden loss of power/boost.
Suspecting a boost hose popping off I made way back to pits and to have a look. All hoses were ok, however.....
So another short day.
Back home and removed turbo to find the waste gate crank arm and penny had left the building ala Elvis
So removed waste gate arm and penny from a .48 housing I had in the garage, bit of fiddling and fitting and it was swopped over.
Then got*the penny and the actuator lever tig welded on.
All done and ready to refit.
Back on
Next was to replace the perished seal on the fuel tank closure plate. Got a new seal and a new plate from ProAlloy and removed the tank from the car to check for any debris in the tank.
Whilst it was out decided to paint it satin black to be more in keeping with the interior look.
Primed it up with some etch primer, then a few coats of black. Looks a lot better now
Just needs a bolt check and clean and it's ready for Ford Fair

I have been off there before at Combe, my mate went off before the chicane and did Ł50k worth to his 355, it was a new car back then and it was repaired then hastily sold....seems wrong really and I doubt it is the best 355 out there anymore....spider too!

Not updated this thread for a while.....
Ended last year with a trio to the European Ford Event in Venray, Holland. It was a good weekend away and made a change from the usual UK shows. Went over with a few of the usuals.
Barry the Beavertail performed flawlessly doing just over a 1000miles there and back.
Max speed is from when I raced a Ducati in the Saff on the way back from RSOC @ Combe.......on a private road of course !
Eurotunnel @ 0400 waiting for Dave and Ben
Loaded on Le Choo Choo
At hotel ........... a beautiful rose between two thorns
Sticker Paul made me a vinyl banner so I made a display frame to take with me (yes it is a parasol base !)
Although we ended up putting it on the fence as the banking was a bit steep.
Few from the show
Food stop on way back
