Ritchie just remember the alcons have no dust seals and that the pistons etc are horrendously expensive from alcon. a guy called jacko on projectpuma has had all the pistons, pipes, shims etc remanufactured out of better materials much cheaper than alcon bits.

Also for a car like yours you might be better off buying belled discs off hispec when your current ones wear out as they are cheaper than alcon replacements plus having the advantages of being belled discs.

Alcon FRP 4 pots are awesome brakes and in my experience they brake harder than anything from hispec/brembo/wilwood with the same disc and 4 pot set up. (ive had them all over the years)

Id say the alcons on FRP standard 295mm discs are only slightly inferior compared to the 330mm discs and AP cp5200 4 pots i have on my current car.

You can get bigger discs for them with spacers.

A well maintained set of alcons are awesome, they just take a bit of care to keep in good nick. Richard parry jones tested them at boreham and he was doing 0-80-0 brake tests back to back to make them fade and he was sick first

The only problem i can see is you may reach a power limit with the engine youve got!! certainly not a problem with speeds and wieght of the car.

What does the exhaust tunnel do??? is it purely for noise purposes or are you planning on running it suuuuuper low for track???

Hi Warren

Thanks for the info

I've heard some horror stories about them , but like you say, they are very good if maintained in A1 condition. Pistons are all clean and free to move.

Was going to spec to Martoon about a seperate disc/bell set up anyway

Exhaust tunnel is purely to enable me to get it as quiet as possible and i don't want side exit exhausts as flames out the side gives the game away

People only have horror stories because they are a race caliper on a road car then wonder why they siezed up with 40000 miles road driving

As long as you have a good pad compound and clean them regularly then to be honest you wont have to do much. Most people i know with FRPs find that once theyve got them in good condition (you never know what your buying until you look really), just a caliper service once a year keeps them sweet with the occasional piston replacement if they are scored.

I suspect if your using it as a trackday beast then they will be off the car more often anyway so things like keeping them clean wont be an issue.

The Jacko guy is getting lots of stuff remade in stainless and titanium so the life can be extended anyway!!! Theres a rebuilding guide on the site in the FRP area.

Obviously with the amount of power your running you might eventually reach the calipers limit on trackdays etc ( i assume the rest of your braking system is all race stuff anyway) but if it were me, id see how it goes first before choosing to go bigger as we all know how horrendously expensive 6 pot AP's are

Whatever colour on outside, perhaps spray the cage black and have a medium tint on the rear side and back windows then you can pull off the sleeper look

theres going to be a few big power cars that will be like "wtf" as you sail past on track!!

White looks good mate. I think zinc yellow might look cool, but i dont know if you would get tired of it and then go onto paint it white anyway.

Too fancy a colour for the KA I reckon, needs to be a bright colour but a plain one IMHO, base colours are timeless
