Default MK1 1977 Fiesta 1.1S (Project 'S'-hitbox) - UPDATE 10/12/07

An ongoing thread about the 1977 Fiesta 1.1S Purchased recently for 365 quid for a winter project for me and a few mates.

Project S-hitbox.

first a few pics from when the car got home.

the rocker cover. before it was stripped of crap and flaky paint.

couple of pics of the wheels that are going on it. before I drowned them in nitromorse

the fan cowling. pre rust removal.

and after it'd been rubbed down and treated to a healthy coat of smooth hammerite.

***update*** 05/11/2007

as luck would have it, the Fez came with a centre console. somewhere to house a decent, or half decent, head unit.
sadly.... theres no wiring, nor evidence of wiring, for a head unit at all in the car.
So big thanks to Mike for giving up a part of his weekend to sort this out.
still got to put the console back in place but at least the head unit works.

front bumper removed. it's going to have some "fettling"

few pics of under the bonnet. was already quite tidy under there when i got the car home. little bit of paint here and there and a bit of a clean up and it looks better still.

more to come. soon.

wheel update.

Pic of how crappy the wheels looked when i got them home?

well, 2 of them are close to being ready to go on the car.
following nitromorse, flatting back, priming, flatting back, 2 of the wheels got their first coats of silver today

nearly finished sanding back the entire roof. the paint on most of the car seems to be rattle can hammerite. bloody horrible stuff. goes all kind of sticky when you try and sand it, and clogs the paper in about 10 seconds flat

phew. busy week.

i've been busy. amongst other things, smoothing the boot

de-wipering the rear

lots of rubbing down and a few coats of filler primer

and a taste (actually, a colour) of things to come for the whole car. lashings of satin black

bit of a maths question....
1 bumper x 1/4 x 2=?
2 quarter bumpers of course :ykt:

having had difficulty in remembering the name of the project for very long, today i cut out a stencil of it, laid it on the bonnet...

...and then a light dusting of satin black
only temporary, i promise

wheels now have lacquer, and looking forward to new tyres on payday

wheel wheel wheel...

finally got new tyres today and then got the wheels on.

i think they make a huge difference to the overall look of the car. (yes i know the bodywork is still very shed-like)

didn't go for the standard (i think) tyre size of 185/60 13's, but instead went for 165/65 13's, for a couple of reasons.

firstly, they're damn cheap. always a big factor.

secondly, the 165/65's give a 5.1mm lower profile (a plus for looks) and are that little bit skinnier so that i know when the snow comes, the car's still going to be able to be driven (unlike the Ka).

anyway, pics....

We did think about this but the Bumpers are "Shaped" so they can be bent round smoothly, also neither me or my mates can Weld or have any gear to do it

bit of an update.
okay... a lot of an update.

removed the webasto roof and gave it a good clean.
before and after pics.

a good rubbing down for the roof itself and then a layer or 2 of filler primer. followed by a splash of matt black.

the front grille was decidedly tired. a bit scuffed and had spots and splashes of paint over half of it.

so off it came, and after a light rub down and a couple of coats of matt black paint, looks as good as new. and for good measure, wet and dried the blue off the back of the ford badge and sprayed that black before it went back on.

some rubbing down of the bonnet (except for the "project S-hitbox" banner) and out with the paper and masking tape.

again, filler primer, followed by the matt black paint.

nice project, that rear plates looks shit there, but hey, horses for courses

why didnt u just take the rims off the tyres while u painted them? much easier, plus u can do the rim edge properly then

going well tho

Couldnt be assed We were getting new tyres on anyway

Im undecided about the rear plate, its easy to move anyway so will see what the local Police have to say about it then decide.

As for the Black... unfirtunatly the Silver paint is not upto much.... most of it is from a rattle can that the previous owner did and i think he used Hammerite as its really thick.

have you got an idea on cost for the alternator, starter and solenoid?

crappy weekend weather wise.
nothing really to do except watch paint dry. so.....

first a good rub down for the exhaust and treated it to a couple of coats of bright shiny aluminium hot paint.
looks almost like new now

before

after

A pillars now painted. along with the scuttle panel and the missed bit along the front edge of the roof

and the rest of the bonnet.
okay, except for "that" bit

spent several hours remodelling the front valance with filler as it had had a bit of a bash and was impossible to bend back.
(yes i know i could've got a new panel, but wheres the skill and fun in that?)

below the front lights all painted now

good work fella, being able to replace panels is good but your damn right about more fun with filler trying to shape it and use as much as poss how much did you use????

years of working with old pieces of shit vans have got me in the premier bodge league lucky for me i can do it propely when i need to as well

i keep looking at this and i really fancy an old mk1 fiesta to play with now but i just cant help thinking a 1.1 just aint good enough

its so much more fun to fix it with a big hammer and a pot of filler

i used about 3rd of a tub making up the raised part where the number plate is mounted, then Cut it to shape with a dremmel (Sod sanding it ) and just flatted off the front surface.
