Default XR2 - Now Converting to RST

What a busy day, hasnt stopped raining down here so managed to borrow a garage. Start off by cleaning the engine bay of CV grease.. long story. Fitted new CV joint, fitted battery in boot, fitted some wiring, refitted lights etc. Then the time came for the engine.. Start off ok, then realised the alternator + bracket isnt going to fit? Wierd. Then had to take the coil pack off. Then i had the hassle of the engine mount.. Few cuts here and there and it was on. Refitted driveshafts, gear linkage etc.. Loads more to do, dont know where to go from here Wiring is giving me a back headache. As is an exhaust manifold. Anyways, some pics

small update, managed to get the radiator on, alternator on, cooling pipes, some wiring etc. Getting there, modified the inlet manifold to get it to fit. Made a start with the wiring but im completely lost...

Heres two pics of the pile of wiring loom i got... No idea what to use out of the big loom.. and half the plugs dont fit anything on my loom which goes to the ecu.. fun

And this is how i left it earlier.

I used an 1800 Zetec clutch, zetec flywheel, used the flywheel which came with the engine and loom to make sure it all matched and used my XR2 CVH box. Goes straight on but you got to use the Fiesta 1600 Zetec adapter plate.

Small update, got the inlet manifold on, fuel tank up, and a few other bits and bobs. Got a smallish list of stuff left to do, but im stuck with the wiring at the moment.. Just trying to figure out how to wire the RS Turbo fuel pump upto the Zetec wiring loom?

Where do these two plugs goto?

Is this the plug i need to wire into my Car Loom?

And this is how it stands today.

erm... the charcoal filter is on my fiesta si and i guess any zetec equipped car, it's got something to do with emmissions i think but you can ditch it easy enough so i'd imagine you can just leave it as there is no point in mounting all the charcoal filter etc when you don't need to worry about emmissions.

Orite mate. Looking good. Im doin the same project maself. Finally got my 2.0 litre running after a lot of head scratching due to the wiring as well.

Any luck with the wiring??

All i need to do now is plumb in the radiator, fit the alternator and make an exhaust.

Dont suppose you could giv us any advice on how you fitted the alternator?

Cheers mate.

no offence but can i ask why you decided to zetec and not turbo. Looking to get a mk2 myslef in next few days and was thinking bout turbo'ing. was interested to see why you did n/a.

is it cheaper? easier? surely not as quick?

again hope i didn't offend just researching before i start mine. thanks

Right... bit of an update. I lost my garage a few weeks ago so had to store it in a garage so small i couldnt work on the car. Finally sorted myself a nice double garage to work in, so work commences again. But whilst browsing thru the local adtrader i noticed an Escort RS Turbo breaking for spares, non runner and turbo was pissing out oil last going off... So went to have a look, has been resprayed in Vauxhall VXR blue, but has a black bonnet due the bonnet opening on the guy when driving. But im not using the shell so that dont matter. When i looked in the engine bay, i noticed the ECU has been chipped at some point, when idling the car sounds like it has a cam possibly, but will check, got receipts for a -31 actuator and it has a T3 Turbo fitted (well one that needs a refurb). Anyways, as i was saying it was a "non runner", so i turned up armed with my Fuel Pump relay, banged it in and it started pretty much first time and it had been standing for 6 months. I drove it home Smoked like a train but pulled like crazy! So the engine will be going in my XR2.

Zetec engine is ready to come out of my XR2, once thats out i will make a start on taking the RS Turbo apart, bit worried about this as there seems to be alot i need to fit into my XR2 engine bay! Also worried about the fuel setup, as it looks like its got a pump under the car near the tank, then i think there is one in the engine bay too? Ive currently got a Fiesta RS Turbo internal fuel pump, can i just use this?

Anyways some pics of the RS Turbo

escort looks nice, I'd probably stick with the escort as i'm not a fan of xr2's but thats my opinion, its a fuel filter under the bonnet not a pump and yes you can use your intank pump ,

The red hose coming off the filter leads to the fuel metering unit, not a pump just an air/fuel regulator

The one on top of the inner wing is the filter, the one mounted to the side of it is the fuel accumulator and that thing under the tank is the pump.

EDIT: Oh and the accumulator runs inline with the filter.

Tank>pump>accumulator>filter>metering head

Hope that helps buddy

Ah cheers, that cleared it up a bit!

Dropped it out from underneath! How much fun lol! Couldnt stop laughing as i nearly got the car over my mate!

Anyways, an update, managed to get the engine out of the RS Turbo and into the XR2 today. Dropped it out from underneath on the RS Turbo, much easier. While out, i fitting new timing belt kit, kent cams vernier and a new water pump. Also fitted a new clutch as the one in the Escort was shockingly bad!

Piccy of the engine on its way

On its way!

Getting there!

So much fun getting the car up so high lol!

Out on its new wheels!

Engine is all bolted up int he XR2, various bits and bobs connected. Need to drill holes for the Metering head and also figure out how the hell im going to fit the Radiator and Fan as there is NO room for the fan? Other than that got a bit done!
