Default Lee's ERST S2 resto/pass the MOT project

Evening all

Well, having sold the XR2 I now have far more time on my hands than I'd anticipated.

The plan for the project is to get it MOT'd, then get it resprayed and then go for it on the tuning. My lips are sealed as to the plans for the tuning but it will definately be good.

Tonight I started to prep it for the MOT. First job, rebuild the steering column as it had far tooooo much play in it. took it out and had a little surprise (No prises for guessing what was wrong ):

Anyway, fitted the rebuild kit and put it all back together and fitted it back to the car, column now tight as a nun.

Next problem: Whilst re-fitting the pinch bolt, noticed the stering rack is also fooked. Time for a new one methinks, quick rack, maybee???!!!

Time to call me mate Si who works for Titan!

More updates soon!

Right, took the old rach out laast night. One of the track rods is fooked completely, moves in and out about 10mm and flops about.

Also, had a good look at the bushes and TCA's. All the bushes are perished beyond belief and the balljoints have seen better days.

Que some new TCA's and polybushes.

Got the polybushes from Rally Design. I ended up paying about £50 for all of them (Steering rack mounts, inner TCA and ARB mounts) and I'm getting the rack, TCA's and track rod ends from a local motor factors, all for about £70.

So I'm just going to be undersealing and hammeriting everything for now untill my bushes arive!

More pics tonight!

Well, most of my bushes have arrived, just waiting on the steering column mounts now. Got the steering rack & Track rod ends too and one of the TCA's, just waiting on the other one and I can begin!

So to kill my boredom tonight I riped out the interior and pulled up the carpet, might as well get it over with eh. What I found wasn't the end of the world, a bit of welding but only just about as mych as my XR2.

Took ages to clean it all up tho. Whoever did the welding and plating though should be shot. I'm not being funny but they welded on new cills on the outside, and just put stickyback roof flashing over the inside joins Also, they just tacked on any plates and caked them in filler primer, so they've just rusted thru

Never mind, I suppose I'll clean it all up and weld it tidy eh!

Some pics:

All undersealed

And the inside

And my prezzies

Will get on to welding it up now on Sunday evening. I think I'm just going to hammerite the floor on the inside, just to inhibit the rust.
