Default RS1600i full Restoration. update 13/6/2009

Right guys ive got a new project after 2 years of trying to decide what. I decided on an RS1600i, as the mk3 is one of my favourite shapes, but having owned a RST i wanted to be different, and the RSi is very rare now, so this is what i have.

Ill get some pictures of the shell later. It is very very solid, and only requires minor cosmetic welding as usual. The main areas are mint.
The only downside to this project is it is stripped and NOT labled. I know where most stuff goes as i have rebuilt 2 S2's and 1 Mk3 before....but its the little bits and unusual RSi bits im not sure of, but it will all come together in the end...when the end is i dont know i have no target, only to get it very very nice...not std concours though.

Nice bits i have are:

GENUINE FORD wings, front panel, back panel.
Loads of powdercoated bits like mounts, ARB, etc etc
ROOSE hoses-all of engine bay ones.
Mint spoilers front and back
2 mint tailgates
Brand new top tint windscreen
Std bronze windscreen
Polished ss exhaust
Chromed exhaust manifold
Polished rocker and plenum
Chromed brackets etc
Totally uncracked dash-£££££££££££££££££ nice
Loads of new bits like hoses, door rubbers, windscreen rubber.
Mint sunroof
Front seats are mint, back ones WERE till a mouse put a little hole in backrest Otherwise mint....ill hunt one down or get it repaired.
SpeakerholeLESS parcel shel.

And then all the other bits n pieces to do the car with spares like

2 sensor leads
2 ecus.
3 pairs twin coils
3 pairs very good fogs
1 pair good spots
Mint original grille..

So it should be nice when done... watch this space

Superb, i look forward to watching your progress!

Judging by your other cars, i'm sure you'll restore it to the justice it deserves!

I really cant see it being ready for next year dave. One reason being my time, and then Lee my mate who will be painting it is also restoring an RSi..so his will need painting too.. But like i say in no rush, i just want it right. the shell wont take long to get ready for paint, and i have a spit and lee doesnt So hopefully mine first lol......although hes coming tommorow to look at my spit and copy it....COOOOOONT lmao

Lets see some pics Lee mate

Post some pics of the spit as well would you as thinking about making one myself, bit late in doing it now after all the welding is done on mine but will probably be doing another one at some point and using the spit will make it much easier

I would have bought a set of front fogs from you as been hunting for a set for bastard ages and they have been selling for stupid money but finally managed to get a as new set for £40

Ok PROPER update now with better pics. As you can see, the underside has surface rust, but it is all solid. There is only ONE little hole on the passenger front footwell that needs repairing, the rest just needs sorting prior to paint.

Then some random pics of just a few excellent parts i have...i have loads more powdercoated and NEW stuff

Better David?

what do you want it like lol.

them bits are like new,i could not be bothered going that far.

but saying that, i have a cossie,so it would get dirty with taking the engine it out then in,out then in....

good luck with the buid Lee,i think you may need it. , or have you done this before.

Well, ive rebuilt 2 series 2 escorts dave and a mk3 escort gl into a 3i rep...all fully stripped down and rebuilt...so i do know what im doing

I just dont know what route to take with this. It will NEVER be a concours show car as that aint my thing, but i would like it quite original

TBH, i think i just want a mint RSi So it will probs be black, all stuff powdercoated then looked after
