Default mk1 fiesta home brew turbo project. update, got another mk2 shell

this is my xr2 turbo. ive owned the car a couple of years now and use it every day, all the work has been carried out by myself.

im using a fiesta rs t2 turbo, r5 turbo carb, mondeo td front mounted intercooler. the engine is a lean burn, std comp, rs1600i piper fast road cam n solid lifters. on the dyno, befor the cam went in n befor i re-did the boost pipes it made 139 bhp at 8 psi. it seams quicker now but not putting it back on the rollers till the new engine n t3 is on.

apexi turbo timer with afr meter, good bit of kit

new erst bottem end, low comp accralite piston, balenced bottem end wit arp rod bolts. needs new paint

T3 in the waiting

when it was twin 42 dcnf's n a turbo, went like stink but cudnt stop them leaking fuel

done loads since last posted. new bottem end in, 1640 cc n t3 to go wit. fans from cooler mounted to rad, cheepo filter, -31, VEMS afr meter, new wheels, hks sequential blow-off valve and more i have proberly forgot.

running aroun the 14 psi mark at the mo, due to a fucked boost gauge i dont no exactly i just no its out. fueling is a little rich but safe so that ok for now. spins like fuck in 1st, 2nd then a little bit in 3rd, pulls like crazy to 120, still got more. havin mojor traction issues at the mo but hopfully getting an uprated s1 box in a coule of weeks so that'l sort all that out.

does have a filter now

boost pipe i made tonite

lining up at the 0-60 sprint at ford fair, did a 8. sumin but was still on the t2 n having traction issues

a proper pic som1 took on the sprint

wen runing 100% n i get a proper turbo cam in it i will have it dyno'd. hoping for 170bhp at least.

boost gauge was sooooo far out, with the new one in place i was running 10 psi! lol shit old gauge.

done so much more on the car, single stage boost switch, launch control button is now some where much much better, custom clocks, upraterd RS box with LSD and a AP paddel clutch to hold the power it now makes. also re-fitted n advanced the standard cam,. much better

clocks

clutch

box

boost controler

gear stick with boost switch n launch control switch

feul gauge to b fitted with universal sender n injection tank (bettr fuel supply to pump)

the gauges came from the need for them n i didnt have the room anywhere else n i dont like random gauges just stuck to the dash. it was surprisingly easy to do n look sweet as now they'r all fitted.

the switches on the gearlever still make me laugh wen i look at them, the launch control works well u wen used in low boost prevents a good amount of wheel spin on the line then its easy to switch the high boost during the change form 2nd to 3rd or wenever i feel im not goin fast enuf lol. low boost is 10psi at the mo n it goes realy well just at that setting, high boost is about 13-14 psi. wen the new fuel tank goes in i wnt have to worry bout fuel surge so high boost will b aroun the 20 psi mark but i may need a new actuator for this, the -31ive got is a bit tired i think.

the other day tho i found some bad(ish) rust under the rear arch, the whole kit has come off n work comenses next week to sort it all out, the car shud b quite differant wen done but final plans arnt set out yet.

thanks for looking

the shit-box still lives n man do i fookin love it! a lot has changed as i dnt post here much but i'll let the pics do the talking.

this is the same car by the way

more gauges

with the now shit-box look in place some more engine work has allowed for some proper power, its still not been on the dyno but u cant argue wen u can see off 53 plate M3's and sit on XJR's arses untill well off the clock lol. to say it suprises people is an understatment. i am currently fitting a bigger turbo too, still t3 but 60trim compresser, 360 bearing and cut back exhaust blades. also on the way is full throttle gear change kit, im predicting lots of flames to acompeny the lag-less gear changes lol. tomorro i'll b setting it up again n with a goal of 25psi it shud b entertaining to say the least

Love XR2turbos...

Used to have one myself back in the day, which I also 'created' using parts various...

Great little simple and fun cars.

Think I'll have to find some old pics and scan them into my pc......

yaa it looked mint but it realy wasnt, had serious xr2 arch sindrome, i had to remove the kit n do both rear arches, most of the drivers sill and repaire the front arches, i always liked un-kitted mk2s so the kit just never went on. i did originaly want to paint it properly but the red primer just looked right.

i replace the turbo the other day n its all running again, full set-up isnt complete, im hoping to get on it later. the full throttle gear change is the bollocks, no lag between gears, just pulls like fuck. alos due to the possibility of flames shooting out the exhaust i thort i shud exit it properly

the tail pipe isnt 100% finished, it neeeds tidying up and ive got a flamer kit to go on for some fire works with the launch control.

oh yes time for a external wastegate!!!!

modded manifold, all tacked up

all welded and suported

all fitted up

for now the screamer pipe just exits down on the ground but i will poke it out the wing wen i get a couple of hours to fuck about with it.

it sounds fucking awsome! so far it works well too, peaks and holds boost better than the actuator set-up but ive gotta get a stiffer spring to get the boost up some more
