Default Fiesta RS Turbo Back to Standard

Bought myself a loverly Fiesta RS Turbo off ebay recently. Shouldnt have, but i couldnt resist it.

Bought it without seeing it, expected the worst when it arrived but was rather suprised.

4 owners, full history, one woman for 13 years, (hence the odd dent), and never seen a welder its superb. Not a single panel ever fitted.

Well i havent the time at the moment for a full rebuild and want it on the road as nice as possible so i can come drool over some Cossies at the RS meets. So set about sorting the problems.

Firstly the sod wouldnt start, no pump or injectors, a day of puzzling over wiring diagrams and i found a broken earth. Fired up right away.

Then the smoke came, just as the seller said it would

Oil pouring out the turbo housing.

So a trip to Wales for a turbo i found off here and all was great. Fitted that i thought would solve it.

Oh no, the 3 month old recon turbo technics turbo i removed that was the cause of smoke had actually died as some monkey had fitted the manifold gasket upside-down/back to front. So it kinda obscured the ports, blew out in several places and obviously the shrapnel killed the turbo seals! Grrrr.

So new turbo on and within 3 mins all the smoke was burnt off. Great.

But within 5 mins it was boiling. Fan was dead, turned out to be the ignition relay on the fuseboard melted, solved that and my boot release too.

So yeh the fan worked, but still boiling, so in went a new fan switch, still boiling. Thermostat?? Nope it didnt have one!

Head-gasket!

Probably rotten from its 18 months or so off the road.

So head comes off, and yep gasket just rotten. But oh dear, slight wobble in 2 and 3 pistons, damm.
Loverly and simple to work on, 30 mins to remove the head, first one ive done for 5 years too.

Right fcuk this, i decided to whip it out, and pinch the rebuilt engine i had aside for my XR2 project.

So 2 hours later:

Rather shocked how well its survived.

Needs a new battery tray, i'd have swapped it now but i want to spot weld it and im in the middle of moving so its not wired to the 3 phase at the moment I suppose i could just linish the rust out, but not really worth the hassle for an hours work replacing with a genuine one.

Spent 4 hours with the cleaner going and got the bay up rather well.

Thought i may as well sort the arches too, so out came the liners and i dunno about you lot but i think these are rather good???

So im pleased, very very pleased. Its certainly survived 17 years well. One day i will gut it to a shell and do it properly, for now i want it running and reliable.

So the new engine. Well its been rebuilt and rebored and runs rather nice, block and head all fully done properly. So put that together with as many new bits as i could get, mountings, clutch, water pump, etc etc and bunged it in.

Got a felpro gasket too, thought may as well put something decent in there.

New alternator and starter etc, i plan to keep it so may as well fit good stuff now that keep messing with it.

So Monday tuesday ill finish fitting it up and fingers crossed for me it will run properly.

Then just the issue of rather siezed 18 month sat brakes.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Block on the rebuilt engine is cracked, some monkey fitting the wrong core plug. Opens up and spits as soon as its warm

Original engine to be rebuilt then!
