mark just read your whole thread!
it's awesome. your attention to detail is unreal,. I know I wouldn't have the patience to do it.
Iv been a fabricator/welder for many years and impressed by you work...
If you think your turret plates would help other guys out, I am able to make them at work if you could send me a drawing as we have a lazer cutter at work.
Keep up great work, although I was hoping it was nearly finished after reading 12 pages, but defo a from me.

Car going off to the painters, I'm sick to death of sanding so some other poor sod can have a go
Tax disc for when the glass goes back in
While the car's away for paint I thought I would sort out the bonnet hinges, they're a pain to paint as the paint gets scratched off when they open and close.
Chrome is nice but it will never get between the two halves so I stripped them down and photographed them for the chrome platers.
After some cleaning up and the hinges pin holes machined out to one size for both parts.
Back from being triple plated.
Needed new hinge pins so I went into work today and made a pair out of stainless steel.
Polished it up a bit and need to have a way of holding it when tightening, so knocked up an electrode on the CNC mill.
Setting up on the spark eroder
Quick vid of sparker in action for those who are interested in engineering stuff, you might have to scroll down after clicking to see the vid in photobucket

All done
Assembled with copper grease
Just need a car to fit them to now!

Mark is your painter upto the task? he will look at the under side and think how can I compete with that.
Nice hinges do you find the chrome isn't as good as it used to be?
I like the video always wondered how they work.

I look forward to seeing it back from the paintshop Mark, but probably not anything like you are! It's a big step - when it's back it's assembly time
I hope your painter realises your attention to detail before he gets the paint gun out!
Cheers

Part of the Furniture
Looking good Mark.
As others have said, hope the painters got your eye for detail.
Any chance you can tell me who did your chroming, as i'm told all chromers round here are quoting at least 2 months turn round?
Thanks

It took around one month to do them.

Very expensive though, cost me Ł95 + vat
It is proper thick copper/nickel/chrome and it must have taken a while to get them shiny first ...

Glenn, please don't take this the wrong way, you seem to enjoy Sierras of all types, but does it matter it's a hatch shell? A Sierra is a Sierra, no matter what badge is on the back. mark has put so much work into this car it deserves to be up with the best of the cossies

Doors and bonnet fitted
New check straps caused some problems as the back ones have been superseded by a newer part number that does not fit the older doors!
I had to file the holes out bigger to allow them through and then get the area repainted.
Only got a pic of the front one fitted, nice new titanium bolt to hold it on because they look pretty
New striker plates bolts and gaskets
The painter is now going to repaint the roof as there are a couple of tiny marks and then compound then whole thing.
Also finally managed to get hold of 3 door Cosworth front hubs that improve the roll centre and H13 ARB which gives sharper steering due to the caster angle.
Compared to H14 Sapphire Cosworth
29mm Granada Cosworth one against the H13 3 door one
Caster angle looks very similar on the 24 valve one, but it is wider and would need pulling in hard with ratchet straps to get it o fit.
Now I should be able to use the anti roll bar spacers to clear the bell housing and still have a reasonable caster angle
Not sure what to do about front brakes now as I've already modified a Sapphire Cosworth set of front hubs to take 300mm focus ST discs and MK3 mondeo calipers.
Had to drill out the bolt holes from M12 tapped to M12 clearance as well as machine the mounting lugs flat on the backs to let the calipers sit flat.
I really do not want to butcher the 3 door hubs but still want decent brakes behind the RS 7 spokes...
