Default My Magenta 4x4 cossie project "Geurnsey" Its runni

As most of you know i bought a Sierra Cosworth 4x4 1990 fairly cheap went to go through MOT and failed on a lot of things.
So im going to give it a general tidy up and get it back on road.

Things that need doing

Replace all brake pipes and flexi hoses with goodridge ones
repair both inner sills
repair any rust or corrosion underneef!
Figure out why ABS light stays on.
Fit new heater matrix
spray spoiler and boot as they become a bit scabby.

this is what it looked like when i bought it

these were the sill and brake pipes it failed mot on

The underside

Just purchased these

Now for the brake lines so off comes wheel and inner covers and
WTF
Multicoloured inner arch

give the underside a jet wash very breifly and come out ok really

Cut away some little rust holes in the inner wheel area ready to weld tommorrow

and this is how i left her today

Looks a tidy motor mate and you will have them pipes and welding done in no time and be back on the road again shortly.

Roosie - while you're on welding it up, take the rear bench out and look down at the sides of the floorpan - you'll see some oblong plastic covers...

Pull them out and have a good look inside - you'll be looking into the insides of the chassis rails. They ALL rust here sooner or later, mine looked mint from outside but were starting to rot slightly from the inside out

The Youth welded them up easy enough for me, but you really need the rear beam out to get at them to weld.

If all's good in there then get a good squirt of Dinitrol Cavity Wax in there

Neil.

PS on the plates you are going to weld for your MOT, make sure you don't block the drain slots up (you can see them in the bottom right of your pic) - This will have been where your rot started IMO...

Strictly they're '88 to '89 and '90 to '92

The original ones were like this:

and the 90-92 ones were what I call 'plain', and the Sierra and RS were separate badges...I dare say someone can furnish us with a piccy...my collection doesn't appear to have one!

in the end did the hoses fit through the holes..

or did you need to use cable ties as rs-nuts said to use ???

im gonna order a set for my car next week ...

oh and have you bled the brakes yet...???

i think they have to be done twice because of the abs

just pondering as you said you have flushed the whole system out of fluid

which is what i want to do and replace with dot 5 fluid

I drilled the hole out and made it 5mm bigger and it went right through then got a 15mm thin nut and got held in there properly, didint like the idea of using cable ties!

nah havent bled brakes yet

im changing mine to dot5 for track days

goodridge hoses make the brakes looks oo much better
