1984 mini 25 project
hi, some of you may have seen the build up of my rwd Escos, as its a long
term project the finished car wont be shown for a good while and i'm off work
today so since i'm bored I thought i'd post a thread on my last project.
It was 1984 Austin mini 25 998cc, i bought it in Jan 05 when I was 17 as
my 1st car. the plan was to make it a cooper replica but i got a bit carried
away as you will see further on. the mini 25 was a limited edition mini to
celebrate the 25th anniversary of the mini and came in silver only with
red piping on the upholstery, however it had been painted black with ALOT
of chequered squares on it,below is how it was upon purchase,
the body was'nt in too shabby condition as far as mini's go, the previous
owner did a great great job of making and fitting new sills which were solid
and they were greatly appreciated later on as you'll find out!!!
as it was getting resprayed etc i stripped the car completely and came
across several rotten area's, including the floors which were completely
replaced, pics of the rot below,
once the rust and shittyness was removed i spent the following few
months rubbing the whole car down ready for the respray, during this time
i also took it for an Mot, it failed on subframe mounts and headlight aim,
i was pretty happy with this as i had just fitted the new 7x13" superlite
wheels which stuck way out beyond the bodywork!!! 2 days later it was
back down for the retest having fitted the new mounts etc and it passed!!!
heres how it looked in the weeks leading up to the respray,
check out the pipe! i fitted a stage 1 kit and made the exhaust using a bit
of 2" ally scaffold and a micron bike can!!! it was the loudest mini on the
roads lol.
on the trailer on its way to the paintshop, came out later that day looking
like this,
i couldnt beleive how shiny it was, BMW black with a nice polish!!!
now that it was back i could fit all the bits i'd been buying over the 8 months
i'd had it,
custom boot lining
very comfy leather seats out of a volvo just fitted in! electrically controlled
and heated, only the best for this beast!!! i made the dash and centre
console out of ply then covered it in marble effect sheet from B&Q, the
results were quite impressive,
about a week after getting it back from the sprayer it was finished and i
was one happy lad lol!!! until 8 days later, when a nice young girl ran into the side of it, i was rather gutted to say the least having just spent 3.5k
an 8 months of my time on it. cosmetically the damage wasnt too bad
but the rear subframe snapped leaving the n/s rear wheel squint, i
managed to weld it up and fit a homemade bracket to sort it. her
insurance company wrote the car off but i got to keep it which was pretty
good and it also went unrecorded!!!
it was in April 2006 that i decided to do the escos project and that meant the
mini had to go, it was ready to go into the bodyshop to have the damage
sorted then i was going to start advertising it. One day at college my
mate and i decided we couldnt be arsed so we phoned up an ad for a
motorbike he was thinking about buying and ended up going to see it,
we viewed it but decided ogo and see another that was advertised near
loch lomond. we were heading out the country roads when the back end
spun out on a left hander, heading for a massive ditch at 50mph
i managed to pull the car round but went too far and thats when we met this,
and my face met the steering wheel, or rather the steering wheel came
up and met my face!!! this was the end of B134 KCM.
luckily me and my mate escaped relatively unhurt, just a few bruised legs and a messy looking face. the guy who phoned the ambulance etc was
apprently too scared to approach the car because he thought we were
both dead which gives an insight into the state of the scene afterwards. As
it turned out, the road had only just been reopened following a crash on
that very bend and we were the unlucky ones too come along first and
hit the spilled diesel, oil and coolant that was not cleared from the road[/img]

spot on, and its getting replaced by a bigger and better car, it was a good
project to do cos i've learned a load from it which should hopefully benefit
the escort and make it 100% 2nd time round.
