Ideas for the Ka??
Right, straight to business i suppose!
I'll b taking delivery of a Ka soon (1.3 Zetec) but for me, im wanting a hell of a lot more power as well as better cornering, handling, and overall better performance from the "pocket rocket" of Blue Ovals.
I have in mind a certain way of what im wanting done but to b honest, even though i worked in a tuners garage for a while, im not too certain on certain bits of the car, suspension, brakes and interior i can do myself to a certain level until it comes to custom build work, however engine sides of things id rather have a garage do the work.
ive had the idea of a 1700 from a puma in mind for an engine swap for a while, but does anyone have any ideas or input on this conversion?
is it a good idea? how reliable will it be? what other mods can b carried out due to the engine bay space?
any input by the tuners or experianced mechanics would b helpful, as i also havent really got much in the way of choice for garages around Fife to do this conversion for me (most of them are jap specialists whereas i would like a ford specialist to carry the work out)
Money isnt an issue on this car as most of my wages will b going into the car being built to spec so any help or info would b greatly appreciated.
cheers

ZVH is an option. Ive seen a rather tasty looking 3-door in performance ford running a 2-Litre ZVH with the turbo on the wrong side which tempted me for running Zetec Power.
But with the size of the Ka's engine bay wont i have to jus have a Zetec Bottom end on a Fiesta RST Engine and build from there??
I know that FRST engines work fine as standard in Ka's but what would b the tuning possibilities for a bigger engine, id be looking at ugrading the sump to a big winged jobbie and a full bottom end rebuild etc.
What tuners would you recommend for the job guys?? Ill b based around Surrey at the time of receiving the car and starting work so could easily get the car down at base with me n transfer it to a garage.
Either that or do any of you know of a tuner in Scotland that is Ford Specialist i can take her to get the work done??

Just read the thread about ur Ka m8 n its looking very nice. After sitting down last night and properly thinking about it i have 2 options for the Ka.
I'll probably send it to DJM Motorsport who will do the bodywork i want IF i decide to add to the Ka's Exterior and also have them Spaceframe it while its there, then it will be shipped off to Sitech Racing in Perth for the engine work.
The options i have are the following:
1. Find a 2l Zetec bottom end and build it to around 200bhp while keeping it N/A and just make it as realiable as possible from there and concentrate on handling
OR
2.If the engine bay space allows it, Have the ZVH turbo'd (possibly thinking of using a standard Cosworth Turbo to start with) and pretty much have a rather large-spec'd engine around the 300-350 bhp mark which i think is more than enough for a Ford Ka!!
im feeling like the second option is best tho

If its an 02 its not a Ka Zetec. They don't fit the Zetec to the Ka but within the last year they have revised the trim names and the Zetec is more or less what was previously the colleciton. You will be running the old faithful rattlebox under the bonnet as standard

turbo route seems best for power so ill b getting in contact with a few tuners up here in scotland to find out rough prices for the conversion and parts etc to find.
im pretty clueless when it comes to ZVH's as the only major work ive done engine wise was to the Pinto engines and a little bit on CVH's. Never really touched Zetecs tbh!
still thinkong on a rough budget for the car overall......but so far its already totalled (not including engine work) to just over 8k for suspension, bodywork, spaceframing, interior mods, brakes and chassis development. engine plans (ie power figures) have been set around the 350-370bhp mark for it, and lets be honest.....thats more than enough for a Ka!!
Only the best will be on this car as once shes built fully i'll be hoping to take her to every track and show in the country that i can manage to let her rip on the track and show her off.

Where in scotland are you?
IS this Ka the one from Ka-Klub member Zetec-300? The one with the leda suspension, pedal box, rally arches, in red i think?
I love that wee beast if it is that one
If you want a look at a conversion, CVH, then you can drop by my house, but i wont be back till easter time as I'm at uni atm.

Nah am not on Ka-Klub mate, probably sign up to it tho after i get it, picking it up next monday from the garage that its at getting a one over before the sale
its black for now, and has the stupid plastic arches for now but i'll be replacing them with the metal bumpers once i can source them and have them painted to match the car when it goes for a new paintjob after the engine work is done. Been able to source a few bits and bobs for it already from a few breakers yards that have some RS Turbos in (spare water pumps, oil pumps, engine hoses etc) so ive got a wee bit in the way of spares, have 3 sets of alloys with part worn toyo's and avons on them if i ever want to track day the car or put winter wheels on her to save the good ones.
Was thinking about a set of Compo's on it but does anyone have any recommendations for anythign else??

I wouldnt bother about the ka-Klub tbh.
Ahh just thought it might be the other car, as it had alot spent on its chassis and was an 02 plate.
Get some pics up asap if you can. When are you planning on going ahead with the conversion? are you going to do it yourself? you should look out for some Engine mounts made by Lee Blake, these fit the CVH perfectly and so can also be used for ZVH and ZT.
Comps! Comps! Comps!

well the car was picked up this morning at 10am from the garage it was at. looks as good as when i first seen it (except cleaner now its had a wash ) Cars been fully serviced so nothing else to do for now but drive it until i can get time and money to put the plans into action (hopefully next month sometime when im on leave)
drove it to the barracks where the usual ridiculing happened when a squaddie owns what looks like a hairdressers car, but then they also know the plans of the car so they were firmly told to "shut there mush" until the finished project is on the road, then the laughing will be done by me i think
Currently speaking to a m8 of mine up north who is breaking his FRST so im going to see how much the engine is going for, or at minumum the bottom end. Engine is completely standard except for induction kit and different sparkplugs & HT leads so i can have it built from scrath to my spec if i can get it from him for a decent price!
Other than that im hoping to get a few more bits and pieces for the Ka soon. Got my hands on a set of FRST front seats to be put in and also bought 4-point harnesses for both seats.
As for conversion, with my job being mostly driving between bases around the UK right now delivering everything from Rations to Challenger Tanks and Apache spares, i really dont have time to do the conversion myself as much as i would like to tho.....so it looks like it will be done by the proffesionals at a top end garage somewhere.
On the case of engine mounts, i was going to get in contact with ATM regarding sourcing 909 engine mounts for the Ka if they exist, but there is still a lot of parts to be sourced and the car is pretty much still in the development stages of the planning but it should be ready to be worked on soon enough.
Will try to get pics up ASAP when i actually buy a new Digital camera

Try speaking to AVA about the conversion. I can give them a look at our engine mounts and they have dealt with our car before. We'll be going to see them at easter time too when i'm back from uni to discuss plans.
Enjoy the new toy
JAmes.
ps. dont buy any mounts yet. I'd put it in with standard ones as the drivers side one needs to be a CVH one and the high spec gearbox mounts has some issues related to it.

You go along the M8 out towards Glasgow Airport. then take the next exit. I think its labled paisley. It takes you to a big roundabout with you take the 3rd exit on, drive along a wee windey road then take a left off it.
I'll try find it on a mapping program and post it up for you.
