My Saphire Cosworth 4X4 top end rebuild. FINISHED!!!!!
After buying the car about 3 months
ago and driving it back from essex
the head gasket went on the cossy.
I decided not to rush the job and
pritty much replace every thing i
could to elimminate problems in
the future. Every sensor and gasket
that could be replaced has been
replaced, along with new dizzy cap,
rotor arm, msd plug leads and plugs.
I have also replaced all the coolant
and boost hoses with samco(black)
piping which i think gives it that new
feel to the bay.
The head has been freshly
skimmed and pressure tested
so i know its 100% and then
rebuilt using new valve guids,
cam bearings valves cleaned and refaced etc etc..
I de-greased all the engine bay
when the head came off so that
it wolud look like new and give
a good surface for the paint to bond
with. As normal the front oil seal
likes and after 16 years of this
you can imagine what the under
side looked like!! De-greasing
alone took 3 days before it was at
the condition i wanted
While the head was off i decided
to incorporate a bit of colour in
the engine bay ready for next
years show season. I decided
to go with a red block and every
thing else black. The items i couldn't
powder coat where painted in high
temperature paint in keeping with
the black theme.
I sent the rocker cover, thermo-stat
housing and inlet manifold and plenum
away to be beed blasted and powder
coated black then laqured for a shiny finish.
The results where far better that i
imagined they would be and well
worth the extra time of stripping
every thing ready for the process.
Here are the pictures i have to
date of the project, pictures of the
powder coated items will be up sortly
as they are on a different camera.
I will post up more pictures and
progress as i do it, hope you like it
THE BOCK AFTER THE HEAD WAS TAKEN OFF.
THE BLOCK AFTER HOURS OF CLEANING!!
SOME PICTURES OF THINGS STARTING TO GET COLOURED.
SOME OF THE POWDER COATED STUFF.
AND MY FRAVOURITE BIT THAT I HAD DONE, THINK THIS LOOKS AWESOME!!
SOME OF MY HEAD BEING BUILT UP READY FOR GOING BACK TOGETHER NEXT WEEK END....
Well all here the final product, hope you all like it??? i f*%king love it!!!
MASSIVE THANKS TO NICK@MSD FOR ALL THE OVER SEEING OF THE PROJECT, COULDN'T OF DONE IT WITH OUT YA MATE!!! :top: [/b]
