Default *SERIES 1 - C700 DYB* Restoration

Hi all, this was my 2nd car and first blue oval I bought back in April 1999 when I was 19, then I sold it on and regretted it after. Then 4 cars and 4 years later I bought it back, now I’m going to strip it right back to a bare shell and fully restore it back to its former glory.

Parts I've got so far:-

2 x o/s/f wings (gen ford)
2 x n/s/f wings (gen ford) doubled up after gettin a set with a front panel.
1 x full front panel (gen ford)
New front windscreen - bronze with blue strip (sekurit)
Boxed New (unused) steering wheel (gen ford RSTS1)
Black Grill, no damage - (Gen Ford)
Decent orignal parcel shelf
Original rear speakers
New Headlights
Pedal Rubbers
2 x Airfilter boxes
Bodykit Rivets (white) gen ford
Smoked rear lights
2nd Full bodykit, no breaks at fixings or cracks, with original tow eye cover.
Fuse box cover
Mint tailgate off a mk3 GL
Full Lockset (spare)
Fuel Pump

Parts still wanted (for now ): 22/05/06
Genuine ford panels *exterior*, not to fussed on the inner panels (always hope.. )
Door Cards
Scuttle
Rear panel
Set of 17” RS7’s Softspokes
Uncracked dash

Heres a few pics of how it looked b4

Started to strip it down - interior 25/09/06

If you look carefully you can see where i skimmed over the welded plate years ago, its lifted/cracked.

Started to let go near the vin number.

This seems solid enough, smooth, just surface rust

I treated this a while back...temp but behind here the rusts really set in.

Inside the front of the o/s rear 1/4.... same on the n/s

And then on tuesday i cracked on with the exterior.... 26/09/06

Deja Vou... been here before when i was 19 i found a TINY patch of rust on the front panel, magic wire brush and it turned into holes, good old filler.

I reckon the n/s/f and rear arches dont look to bad at all.

First impression...

Bit of a clean

Sills been repaired before, on its way again, all being replaced - inner/outer.

And then the o/s/r...

Not too bad, seen alot worse... quite solid except for 2 areas

Bit of a clean

If you follow the arch round, looks like its been fighting.... with a screwdriver or whatever someone's used to try n remove the kit in the past.

Thats it for now....

let me know what you think... cheers

You won,t regret doing it .SERIES ONES ARE THE NICEST WHEN CLEAN.

looks a belter mate, in my humble opinion thats a very sold shell you have there, ive seen loads of MK4 RST's a lot worse than that so for a MK3 its rocksolid. have to agree with mercury S1's look the DB's and yours was nice to start with so its going to be a corker when finished. what are your plans for the resto and how far are you taking it

Woohoo!! Another bites the dust (off his S1)! It looks like a really good base to start from, and it sounds like you're really going to town on it with all the Genuine Ford parts you've found. Best of luck, it'll be a joy to watch!

Thanks guys , managed to get the car down to work today for a good look underneath. Under that wax oil the car looks and feels quite solid below too
Plans for the car are as follows :-

Bodywork/Exterior – I want to leave it as Ford intended. I’ll keep the original mint alloys but I want some RS7 Softspokes. The lights I might change, got some smoked rears but not sure yet.

Interior, again I’d like to retain as much of the original look as possible, a few panels n trim need replacing, repairing.. door cards sagged n the usual faults with bolsters, just keeping an eye out for some decent parts.

Engine – this is the bit that’s well open to advice… I’m thinking of going for more power, standard at the moment but are’nt sure what to go for. Cost, reliability n all that.. what sort of mods would I need to see 180-200bhp plus rough cost? Its just gone round the clock so its well ready for a rebuild…

Brakes & Suspension – undecided yet, depends on the engine mods really, any advice on a decent set up would be appreciated cheers; I have no idea what suspension setup’s on the car at the moment… been on for the past 8 years that I’ve known.

No idea what exhaust this is, no markings so maybe custom?? receipts for over £400, supplied and fitted by Well Lane Turbo

Had a few scrapes... Bloooody speed humps

chassis rails been crushed at some point.

I'd had enough of stripping down sunday, been wanting to try out the sandblaster on some well rusted parts so i gave it go with the towing eye...

Before

n' after

Came up well

How I plan for the underside to look...

Think it looks amazing.....

http://www.unique-bid.com/

Go to this site if you wanna see a mint S1 2.1ZVH up for auction (motoring section) They still need something like 20,000 bids tho.
