Mig Welders
hi,
ive decided to buy myself a mig welder!,
but i dont know which to get, ive had my eye on a clarke 220te or the 255te , as ive been told there pretty good,
here a link till the 220te http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product...0&r=2031&g=105,
do you think this would be ok to work on cars? or can anyone suggest a better one fo this kinda work?
ive been told to to go for a clarke due to the build quality compared to sip's? but i dunno
any help appreciated

sip are shite
my clarke is all good, ive had loads of em now and the clarke has been the least hassle, if your just doin a bit of car welding i'd not go so large and stick with a 150 or so
mines about that and can cope with all i throw at it and will do bigger stuff too
got mine from www.thewelderswarehouse.com

Clarke are probable better now than they were but I had a brand new one about 15 years ago and it was a total pile of wank , the wire kept jamming in the feed tube and it was next to useless. The Sealey I bought to replace it has been 100% for at least 15 years and all that's been changed are the gas cup and tip.

Blah lol, ive only heard good things about clarke so far!,
i asked about the 255te clarke on another forum and i got this answer
CLARKE 255TE is a cracker, same machine as the famous American 'Miller' machine with cast aluminium geared wire feed, large smoothing capacitor bank for outstanding smooth arc characteristics & overall GREAT value for money
i think i will go for the clarke, but if not, a sealey would be a good choice going by that!
Thanks

Get yourself on ebay.
Sealey 220 amp models at 465 inc vat and delivery.
Good machines with spares available everywhere.
Has standard Euro torch etc and is single phase.
Id agree with the earlier SIP statment. Most pig awkward welder to get a decent weld with ive ever had to use.

i have a SIP, and have had no problems with it really. my bodywork dude been welding numerous panels to my s2, and it never misses a beat. all iv done is upgrade to a full size bottle n regualtor instead of the baby mobile bottle set up, and fitted 1 of them metal spring type wire feeds to stop it kinking the wire.

Mig Welders are usually pretty good. Just do a bit of research as to which particular one is the best for what you want. Check out a few different websites too - prices vary a lot!
Have fun looking!

I've got a SIP 150 Mig set, its old, and i got it in used condition from an old chap who comes to work, its been a little belter. I don't do vast amounts with it, its just a handy thing to have, but it is gentle enough to do thin panel work, the heaviest ive done was at work to do repair work on a Land Rover chassis when the big mig set packed up. Fairly versatile for a little 'un, so in my opinion i can't knock SIP stuff at all

ive had a clarke non gas mig for outside use for the last 8 or so years and has always done a fantastic job.
i have plenty of photos of the work i have done to prove this, if it helps.
