Yep,
All zetec ECU's ive come accross have been coded to the key as an anti theft device. You'll need to have the key near the reader (looks like a big black ring that would have been up at the ignition barel on the original car).
Dont know if you can get a bypass for it, someone else might.

I was told that the early mondeo and escort did not have the PATS antitheift device on them. The loom i am trying to use is from a 1993 mondeo 1800 . And i did not see any black ring on the ignition when i stripped it out? Has any one succeeded in getting their motor running?

Nearly got the motor running but have come accross another problem. When trying to start the engine pot number three seems to be filling with loads of fuel. Then when i stop turning the engine over and leave it standing u can hear fuel trickling into the cylinder as though the injector is still open. I dont think its a faulty injector because i have tryed a different set and still the same problem.Anyone got any ideas?
