Default Rover V8 powered sierra.

Sorry for my english.
So it is an -87 Sierra powered by an v8 from rover sd1, the gearbox(automatic) is also from the same car. The engine was completely rebuilded a year ago.During the rebuild it was spiced up with a race cam, edelbrock four barrel carburator and edelbrock inlet manifold. The pictures are from last winter and spring. The car has been standing in the garage for almost year due to military service.

Here is few pics before the rebuild:

Its a standard rover 3 speed automatic gearbox. The drive shaft is half rover half sierra, specially made. The gearbox fits in by moving the mounting brakets, and giving some sledgehammer to gearbox tunnel.

Im sooo building a V8 Sierra/Saff/Estate (cant decide whats cooler) something soonish. Ford 302 though, and manual box, and a couple of T3's

I want to keep PAS though, and still waiting for someone to mod the steering on a Sierra to get a decent amount of lock...

Go with estate, i have seen some pics in the net from black estate what was fitted with chervolet 5.o litre v8, it also had super wide rims. In finland we have pretty strict laws in modifying cars. the law restricts the engine displacement to 3,5 litre in sierra. here is a rule that the engine capacity cant grow more than 25% from the biggest engine available so thats 2.8l*1.25=3,5l. So almost only only choice is rover engine and because the rover engine is made from aluminium so it only weights little bit more then th e v6. Theres also available kits wich enables you to use bog&warner gearbox from 2wd cosworth. Manual gearbox requires cosworths 7.5" or 7" diff, cos the standard wont last.

Great project Minkeo
Pleeeese use a manual gearbox, you will die of boredom with an auto.
Remember that the RV8 comes in many capacities and with 94 mm liners and machined down Buick crank you can have 4800cc with the original engine numbers

Lots of help here

Mark

EDIT because I did not read the whole post, a 2 litre diff will easily cope with the 3.5 engine, my last Sierra was a 3.5 V8 using a T5 box and stock 2 litre diff.

biggest sierra standard is the xr8!!!! allready have a thread running on it but for thoes who missed it it comes standard with a mustang lump!!

Seen 3 for sale in the uk recently and what animals they are, and being american alot of mods are bolt on, like a compressor will go straight on and all needed is a pully, belt, and a tweak to the carbs!!!

Yep, those xr8 sierra were built in South Africa and only 250 were done. But not a single one xr8 has been brought to Finland and due to that its not akin.

Great car!

But I'm not to keen on the choice of engine, the SD1 V8 only produced 150bhp..... but still, a bit of fettling should change that
