replacing rear chassis rails...sum1's gotta know wot todo!
this is a pain in the arse question! Im restoring my s2 and the chassis rails are dead, basically iam considering a re-shell but thats not what i set out todo,i set out to restore my beloved RS im sure u guys understand!
my mate aint got time to do everything so i said id remove the old rails..im car literate but i usualy leave bodywork alone im just lookin for advice on how to remove the old rear chassis rails, ready for him to weld the new ones in!
im really desperate to keep the project movin as i want it done b4 d summer is over!

You wiil need an ANGLE GRINDER and a SPOT WELD DRILL. Angle grind accross the box section you want rid of then drill out all the spot welds and with a bit of bashing with a hammer and chisel the sections should come off. Then get a replacment section from NON GENIUNE SUPPLIER i think they were about £30 each. You will get the hole rail, about a metre long. Then just cut what you neded with angle grinder.Try to cut out a section that matches your hole exactly, then mig weld on,grind flush and underseal and paint.It.s a dirty job but only needs to be done once in a lifetime.

i was thinkin id just replace the whole section,or is this more difficult?
but sum1 has just told me that when i cut the old ones out the body will sag(or sumats) and the only way to replace them is with the car in a jig!
is this right?
