Smile My Fiesta MK2 1.8 ZT

The car was originally purchased as a run around while I fitted a ERST engine to my old fiesta. But the look of the STD XR won me around after sitting on my dads drive for 12 months then this happened a few years ago now...

1st not rebuild but engine install.

Ended up like this at FITP 2004..

Picked up my 2ltr mondeo zetec engine last week

need to get the pistons fitted into it now

I already have a full 1.8 escort zetec to take the sump, pick-up pipe, inlet manifold etc . I need to sort some niggly bits like getting the injector convertors from chopper (on XRTwo.com)and fuel rail from focus zetec

Then it engine boring and machine etc.. off to Ian howell for that lol

thats it for now

Update time finaly

Ive managed to remove the inlet off the 2ltr zetec and check the fit of the 1.8 injector plate and manifold which was fine.
This allowed me to get the plate sent off to Chopper who is a GOD and managed to make me some injector convertors for the plate and press them in for me (also cleaned it up a treat too and is highly recommended!!)

with trial fit FRST injector..

Chopper has also made from scratch for me a convertor for the 2ltr TPS allowing me to put the FRST one on as it is different to the zetec.

and finaly both built up together

I still need the fuel rail as mentioned previosly though.

Also heres a pic of the intercooler to be used

Randyb: Sorry its been so long. Hopefully gonna get 250+

bit of a update

tested the manifold just to make sure and all was fine..

while I was there thought that I would try the other half of it to get an idea how much space there was left to fit the fuel rail (not alot is the answer but the ISCV can have its face skimmed to help)

next i removed the seats and carpet to inspect the inner sill/floor and prepare for welding the outer sills. They dont look to bad IMHO but need 1/2 patches. excuss the mess too

and after looking at MK's thread thought id show you what I meant about my intercooler. this is the position I want it to be in..

excuss the blue paint. the car isnt going any different colour

Also bought some rear caliper brackets off big rich

still got a lot to do

Im hoping its going to be quick

Im using FRST OFAB management. I still need to get the injectors (of which i am unsure at the mo.) and superchip.

I had another go at the inlet after getting my fuel rail off mk1turbo at fitp. (Thanks mate!!!) here's the result.

how it came

1/2 stripped

fitted to sandwich plate and standard FRST injectors

and trial fit to the engine

It looks like it will work well All I have to do is grind off the original mounting lugs and use some munson rings ( pipe clamps for plumbers ) to hold it in place. The ISCV needs to be milled to allow it to fit in the gap though but thats not much of a problem.
It allows use of the FRST fuel pressure regulator as well

I still need to sort the thorttle body out with the correct linkage, which I still need to find, and think of a way to get a idle air bypass on the throttle as the zetec doesnt use one and the FRST does. I am thinking of using a bleed valve with two connections (like a restrictor not to bleed) one connection to the charge carrier and one to the inlet. Any opinions?

Thats all for now

Zetecs are good bhp per £ if you search for the parts I doing mine on a very strict budget.

Well ive been at it again. Trying to remove the sealer/sound proofing from the inside so I know what im dealing with (and loosing some weight too )

Not a lot to show but

a couple extra patches to do mainly on the passenger sill at the back but not to bad. Think I will put inner sills on both sides to go with the outer though just to be sure. Need to get scraping at the underneth now

had a bit more time today so here goes.

Took some of the surrounding parts off of the 2ltr engine so I could offer up the exhaust adaptor. There is so much crap on there

fitted it on with a few bolts for trial

then the turbo unit

then theres the pics of the sill . Off with the old

heres the new, but I will have to make up somthing for it to join to first

I might see if I can use my dad's garage to get busy with the grinder. The only problem is its 12 miles away. My neighbours are tossers always complaining about noise at night.

Thats it for now

Ive been scrapping at the underside/wheel arch trying to remove the underseal off the car so I dont miss ANY of the rust.

Now at this point you notice how much rust is hidden on these cars
Im still not giving up though, even if it is slow and painfull. All im using is a scrapper and hot air gun because I can only work later on in the evening.

heres the progress (all work on N/S)...

front floor

rear floor

rear arch

I also removed the fuel tank ( FC with swirl pot and hadrien sticker :blub: ) to gain access to the panels and chassis at the rear which require attention. I will get pics if anyone is interested.

Knowing when to stop is the question.

found this while cleaning today Im not sure if it can just be sandblasted and treated with rust killer then pained and sealed up again. What do you think?

Its solid but can it be saved?

Looking a bit sad for its self now Anyone got a rot free shell?

My car does have a pin stripe around the black window thing.

As for my aim, all I want is for it to be quicker and more unique than before

Nearly forgot about this thread

I have been stalling on doing the shell because I dont know what to do. I might be in the game for a reshell into a base model but will have to wait and see.

anyway I have been doing odds and sods to the engine parts, mostly the inlet manifold. this is from a few weeks ago..

The manifold is normal 1.8 zetec the fuel rail is 2.0 S3 zetec I have cut off the mounting lugs and now it all lines up fine All that is needed now is to get some munsen rings and threaded bar from a DIY shop so it can be secured from the original position

Heres how it went (although very dirty as its been in the shed )

fitting hole to line up munsen ring

clearance for ISCV (maybe it will fit )

and finaly all together

Anyways heres some pic's of the manifold now after a cleanup

I have also had my CVH EFI flywheel drilled out for zetec and skimmed for flatness.

Bloody hell mate... you still building it... hows the vectra...? haven't seen you about much... Hope the Scooby hasn't woke you to many times when I've been past...
Up-ing the boost from 14psi to 25psi on it soon once the 800cc injectors are fiited... should see it reach the 500bhp mark
I'll finally be able to flick the anti-lag back on then...
Then it'll be up forsale next year... as I wanna get a house... so will probabley be going back to the old faithful MK2 Orion's...
Will be visiting you then because I wanna go 2litre zetec turbo route on it...
Have to catch up soon...

I won't invade your thread with anymore pic's now... speak soon...
PS... Hurry up and get it built...

Never mind, she's to scared to drive the Scooby thank god...

Pic's of the MK3.... Ooooo Send them to slammedorion@hotmail.com
Cheers mate... I should still be able to get re-trim done... theres plenty of people at work that'll do something on the side...
You need the car painting???
If you prep it all, i'm sure I can get Shaun @ Gorsty Hill to paint it in white for under £400 3 litres should do it nicely...

Has Kim passed her test yet???
