orange compitition fiesta, update 5/6/06 (56k no way)
well here she is, ive got loads of photos so i thaught i would share them with you,
the story goes that this was my old nova track car that i built but i could not keep going with it as i needed it to drive to work in so had got to its road going limmit really,
it had a 2.1 8v on 45 dellortos, a home ported head, a kent road race cam and vernier, ARP bolts, lightened and ballenced crank and flywheel, and a 16v manifold made to fit the 8v, (cant remember the rest)
so i got rid and have had a few silly cars since but craved the noise of carbs again and a stripped out motor to do some hill climbs in and track days,
so............
the fiesta arrived. all 1.1 ghia of it in champagne lol
within a week i had removed all the innards of the thing and fitted the buckets and harnesses that i had got a few months before,
i also had a mate breaking a fiesta so i raded his garage too for a cage.
it was then lowered using system 2 suspension, its a cheap option untill i can afford billsteins,
at this point i would like to say that this is a very tight budget build at the moment that will progress when its done to a basic state,
sorry photo bucket was being gay, and my pc lol
now this set up proved to be a lot more fun even with the 1.1 than i expected so i decided to go further ad started stripping the sound dedaning out and fitting the front half of the cage, and with propper strengthaning plates, home made as you can see
ok by now the hand me downs and second hand bargains are coming in thick and fast
i got myself a set of xr2 callipers with goodrage hoses a mega lightweight flywheel for a cvh, a webber manifold for a cvh and perspex windows, and a LSD rs turbo gearbox
i also recieved a 1.8 zetec for free with a st 170 manifold which leaves me in a dilemma as im not sure wheather to go for the cheap option with the 1.6 cvh as i have a lot of parts for it now, or make the manifold fit the zetec and run carbs on that (this is what i would like to do but im not sure)
anyway i wanted to de bumper the car but i forgot how much of a pain the front would be on a mk2
as you may have seen in that last pic im going to be running 15 inch pug gti wheels, which are a little tight to say the least lol
now that pic gives away my next bit of fun
that was the trial fit so i then removed a lot of rust and tubbed up the rear arches, i need spacers even for these wheels now too lol
cant see these rubbing now lol
now that sunroof, naa dont want that do we
by now all of the glass was out so i started lightening the shell
doors......
tailgate.....
now you can see what im going to do with the exhaust, the only thing that put me off about fiestas is how wank they sounded, even tuned xr2s exhausts sounded real gay, so a mate of mine explained that its because of the situation of the back box,
sooooooo........
and the inside
bad pic i know but you can see where i have cut the floor and tunneled it in so i can seal the box in propperly,
ive started stitch welding the car too
hope you guys like py progress as its only been since about feb that i have started working and collecting for this car, now that i have nearly finished the outside its going in for paint in a few weeks, cant wait now,
black cage and wheels with a yellow inside and out shell,

as you said really. if someone has a part ill see what i can afford at the time,
i have prob spent about 600 so far but ive not started building the engine yet or even got the carbs, the next major outlay will be paint, but a mate (RKG) owns a bodyshop so is going to do the painting for me if its all ready to go when i bring it to him.

ive got this car as i dont mind if i make mistakes here and there, and as it wont be on the road that often (prob use it for work a few weeks before an event to get used to it every time)
im a cnc programmer and toolmaker by trade, cars are just an obsession of mine,
but when i met a bloke once to get some carbs for my gte nova he showed me a few cars that he had built in his paintshop, and i was hoocked with getting deeper into the car, and this will be what ive always wanted to build, and not be worried like i was with the nova about it not being practicle

well i think ive got on top of the cossie 4 pots mounting problem, basically the fiesta hubs require the calliper to be threaeded but the 4 pots are not.
so im going to slightly drill out the calliper wholes by about 2mm si i can then press in a turned top hat shaped threaded bush (top hat to make sure it wont pull through)
ill use some 12mm hi tensile cap heads from work so i can have as much thread in the calliper as possible without loosing strength
with the calliper now able to be mounted they are not goingg to be of a direct replacement disc size or offset. so ill mount the calliper and measure from the centre of the hub to the inside edge of the calliper so give me a starting disc size, the offset will be sorted by making a spacer that goes on behind the disc to bring it in line with the centre of the pads,
bit of a ball ache but i cant not use them now i have them, i cant imagine how well they will stop a 750kg fiesta when they are made for a 1.5 tonne saph with over 200 bhp

todays work,
arches are properly fitted and undersealed, and ive done a little more of the dreaded fillering, smoothing is harder than it looks.
hope you like

i wanted a mk1 but i looked at the options,
basically most of the mk1s are rotten now, and are starting to fetch more for the clean ones due to there rarety,
then there is the engine thing, its much harder to fit one to a mk1 due to having to cut space for the 5 speed and things like that,
then there was the fact that i had never seen one with the front end properly smoothed, just cut and meshed and i never liked that,
oh and i got this minter for 300 quid lol,

MC rallying the arches are from
not going to smooth them in tho, if i catch one of them on something i can just get another one and rivvet it back on, may even get a spare set painted up ready,
got the brakes on today for a trial fit, going to be easy too, ive put up a how to in the general chat forum,
but here is a quick pic to wet your appetites
going to get a set of rs 2000 discs and take them to work for drilling and grooving,

well here we go
the brakes are on, just got to get the ebc red stuff pads and ill be done, but i had some standard pads that came in the callipers to test the new discs with
it worked out that mondeo scopio 260mm 4 stud discs are the buggers, as they had a better offset for the fiesta rather than the rs 2000 discs used for the 4wd cossie callipers,
anyway some comparison pics for ya,
old.....
new....

quick update,
ive taken the dash out and all the sound dedaning and heater from begind it, also started making a new dash, not as bling and stylish as some of the dashed ive seen on here but this is a cometition car so the bare minimum is required for what i want,
ill get a pic up when ive mounted all the guages in the pannel i have cut and cleaned it up a little,
also finished the rear valence and have the paint ready for the paintshop on the weekend,
ive begun to make the webber manifold i had for the cvh fit the zetec too, its nicely match ported to the head but ive not got a pic yet
its smooth bum
everything removed, done all the interior stitch welding now too
dash components, i know the race x guages are a bit gay in the box but they look good and do the job when fitted, got a load of wiring to work out now
and i had to show off the orrange im using, 100 quids worth of bright VW orrange tinter, should get it noticed lol

thanks for the reply, i think some of you would be pleasantly suprised by how good the wheels look on the car when your acctually sttod by it,
any they are one of the best wheels you can get in 15 inch from a standard car, renowned for being awsomely strong, (made by speedline)
dont worry ive taken the centre caps out for now lol, ill be sanding the pug badge off and sticking a ford one on when ive painted them black
a bigish update today then,
the inside is now painted and ive started re fitting the loom, gotta love old wiring, its so simple compared to the 200sx loom i had to do on my old car,
i was a little dissapointed at the smooth back end as its had a minor shunt by the looks of things and been fillered in the past, ive then followed the lines they have left and its not that greater shape, but hey its a competition car.
im loving the front end tho, mean as hell
inside a few panels to show the colour
a dusty inside of the car,
i welded a diagonal onto my rear cage and painted it, dusty pic again sorry
all masked up (nearly) and flatted back
and on with a litre of primer, its great how its covers a multitude of sins
and its bum, dont worry the exhaust opening wont look like that when finished
