I've just come back from having a look at one of these for myself. Everything was good untill I saw the whole underside of the engine covered in oil, and I mean COVERED! I said I would think about it, Im quite dissapointed TBH. Its a 1 owner car as well with genuine 66k miles.
Whats yours like for oil leaks clint?

Clint, when yours is locked up does the red immobiliser light stay permanently illuminated? Mine does, but I would of expected it to flash.

It should flash, when you hit the button on the fob it should stay on then you can start it mate

Can you put me right on this. I thought Tomcat was the name given to a Race series & Rover built 30 odd special cars to race in it. Didn't think the Tomcat name was on a Road car.

According to Wikipedia, Tomcat was the name given to the car during development and was adopted for the race series.

That might not be true of course, but it's what the internet says.

Yes sounds about right. Development name not Production car name.

No mate, rovers code name for the 220 coupe turbo was tomcat, nothing to do with certain special models or racing

When it was introduced to the Paris motor show the code name was tomcat, when under development, so I suppose you could say the name has been adopted

This suggests im right.

In 1993, Rover Group produced 36 specifically modified 200 Coupé Turbo models. The cars were not undersealed and were seam welded and fully race prepared. The code name Tomcat from the project days was used to create a new race series, the Dunlop Rover Tomcat Race Series. The cars competed against each other around the United Kingdom & Europe for two years until Rover dropped their backing.

Sorted, a piece had broke off the door/interior light switch. New one fitted and problem solved, it also drained my battery.

What's yours like for rust? Mines had the sills done and has some bubbling in 2 or 3 places, pretty good compared to an escort of the same age for example.

Mines had sills done few bits of surface here and there which I sorted, back arches bubbling, but would be best to cut it out and have new

Not on our engines, as long as you look after them check water and oil, and if proper gaskets been used not the eBay specials should be fine mate, take no notice of people
