Default Newbie with a far too stock focus

Morning!

Well after a fight with a lorry last year I decided to spend my "winnings" on a Focus.

2000 1.8 LX

Aside finding out it's pretty good on fuel (which surprised me) all I've done is lower it 50mm all round on a nice ebay find set of Spax.

Looking forward to meeting some folks and getting to a few shows hopefully

I'm after some Mondeo si alloys, add a few lime green touches. And fit my bargain £1.20 back box.

It's my daily and will get me from lancs to Wiltshire or wales alot so not going crazy on it.

Hi there, there's a lot that can be done to facelift the mk1 but depends how far you're willing to take it. I joined ffoc.co.uk as bits turn up on there regularly like seats, wheels, etc.

I prefer this look tbh, don't like the facelift as much. I've put over 5k in to my other car (and it's still not finished) so i'm more going for subtle on this.

I think I'll get rid of the bump strips this weekend (unless it keeps snowing anyway).

I found a standard height one to park next to today, just to see the difference. I would take it lower on some coilies but I'd get stuck on my own street or wreck it on country lanes anyway.

Welcome to PF mate.

Cool project. Your Focus looks nice and tidy too. I like you, prefer the look of the pre facelifted mk1.

Will be keeping an eye on this as I'm planning on doing the few but subtle changes to my Mondy, as you are planning with your Focus!

Thanks folks the paints not ideal - its been keyed down each side and some is a bit chipped. But I do decals and stickers and that so I may sort something that covers a few offenders for now.

I'm really liking it, I'd never been a focus fan but it was a good price and I love the colour (how girly)

I also need to finish my other car this year haha

welcome to pf , you cant go wrong with a focus as plenty of mods available for whatever you budget and taste, as for the ffoc mention all they want is your money like most clubs

I've heard bad things tbh. I prefer a um more friendly crowd I'm sure my focus won't be to everyone's taste but most of my cars haven't been over the years.

It'll push to 100 okay but yeah its not bad for an old boy.

Currently stripping the engine down for a rebuild. Then respray it again and sort some niggles.

I'm moving away this year so funds are going to that more than cars (booo!!)

Ah thanks Dave! I was wondering what the actual name was I had looked at a few of the light blue but wasn't to my liking. I've had a few compliments already, especially when the sun occasionally comes out.

I've got some Dodo Juice Blue Velvet on the way for some extra sparkles

I did have a little collection of cars but circumstances changed and they all had to go. But the mini will never go.

I was told the focus should go when I move in with the bf as I can use his bimmer... He got a very firm sod off

I'll second that glenn! If fact I'd say the mk1 focus is the best model ford have ever produced.

What does it drive like lowered?

Only reason i ask is they drive so well standard makes me wonder if it actually helps or if it just looks a bit better?

Honestly it drives really well. Still practical, not a harsh ride, and less wobble. The LX springs aren't much to write home about, and I've thrown it down the motorway, country lanes and general town with no issues. Yes I have to slow down a bit more for a speed bump but small price to pay.

I am on 14s with a huge profile though so I'll have to see what its like when I swap the wheels.

Excuse the salt and rubbish up the splitter but even on a fairly big speed bump its got enough clearance.

I have a mk1 lowered on eibach pro springs with blistein b4 dampers. It's only 30mm but that's all it needs imo. They really improve the handling and cornering ability. I would make sure the bushings are in good condition has been lowered a bit puts a strain on some parts of the suspension.

I need to fit my back box, that's sat waiting. Slight audio upgrade.

Might get a spare set of head lights, strip them apart and dechrome them. See if I like it or not.

Wheels I'm leaving until the weather is better. I've got a good set of tyres might as well wear them out.

I think I'll get rid of the bump strips down the doors too

bit risky in this country taking off bump strips with the I dont give a toss culture of banging doors into parked cars I would just colour code them, maybe retro fit mk1.5 st170 black headlamps as its easy to do

Some universal back box I got for a whopping £1.20 haha

I've not got wheels yet, I'm juggling doing this up with saving to move a few hundred miles away.

In terms of parking, I park at work next to the bosses evoque and some finance guys Jag XF so no dings there. And working nights I'm out at silly o clock if I need things.

So far inc buying the car I've only spent £680 (car, CD player and spax springs)

£1.20!!?? I thought the one I've found at £55.00 was cheap. Yours makes the one I'm going to buy look expensive!!

If you go for some wheels, which ones do you fancy?? £680.00 all in?? That's so good. How did you manage that?? Perhaps I should get you to find some Spax springs for my Mondy!!!

Yeah some local guy had it on ebay, I actually felt bad paying him! Its a year old but very good nick. Will just require some chopping and bodging to fit right.

The springs were 70 and only a few months old. Guy had upgraded to coilies so good for me!

Wheels I'll pick up in a few months, I'd like Mondeo si ones. But I may change my mind (as we gals do)

And local too?? Jammy or what!!

I fancied Mondy si alloys too but some others came up in the end!! I'm also gonna get some Spax springs. Looks like they are gonna set me back around £150 so your £70 Springs were a bargain!!

Local enough about an hours drive. But considering I get all over the country that's nothing.

Full of snow up here right now so the steels are fine haha

Now I am looking at the large roll of matte lime green wrapping vinyl I have sat in my lounge... I really should put that to some use

Where abouts are you from clarkie?

£1.20?????? How the hell did you manage that? You'd never get a good deal like that out here in france! Bloody french.

Bet clarkie is well jealous!!! So what are the long term plans for the car?
