New "spare" Puma Thunder

New "spare" Puma Thunder
Just bought a bargain Puma for a couple of reasons:
It was a bloody bargain I couldn't refuse
It'll be great as a winter hack if that's what I want
Kinda miss my old one I sold in 2010 - great simple & cheap fun
As I run www.projectpuma.com it's handy to have one
It's a 2001 1.7 "Thunder" edition (just - probably someones Christmas present as it was registered a week before) and has only 55,000 odd miles on it and pretty mint really. Completely standard and been owned for the last 2+ years by an AA chap so in pretty good condition.
Original exhaust still!
Next to my "daily" Mazda 3 MPS:
There's a tiny bit of surface rust on the very bottom return of one rear arch and a bit more on the sills that only needs a rub down, protection and respray. 3rd brake light lens is cracked and it could do with getting the fairly new ditchfinder tyres relaced with something more confidence inspiring in the twisties. And a damn good clean of course!
I'd forgotten how crisp the gear changes were!
And I can now show again on Passionford meet / show stands..

They are good fun in the twisties - bit under-powered in a straight line but that's where the MPS comes into it's own

Did you just look at the pictures, and not read the post? Dal and I are half of the admin on Projectpuma, and we've both had Pumas before. There's not much that we don't know about them ourselves, and what we don't know, is usually on our forum.

Real stupid question but how do you go onto the next page on puma project? Cause I keep reading threads on there but can only read the first page? Can't find the page numbers? Loving the site tho!

Oh well.. at least it's a bit different
I put new Uniroyals on mine today and the ride is a million times better than the >ditchfinders< that were on it.

Ben
Pound for pound, I don't think you can have more fun!

Initially quoted £100 a side to rub down and respray, including the anti-corrosion coating. They did find some bits that needed welding though, so they did that, and blended up to the swage line. Even with the extra work in was only £300 all in!

I've gotta get mine sorted. Arches first though.

Just taken some pictures..
Before:
After:
(But filthy as not washed it yet and been commuting. It is a really good finish - honest!)
They put the textured finish on the very bottom and had to weld some new metal in. But they did treat it all inside and out. Not bad for £295.
Luckily the arches are ok.
