Fixed it myself mate today, changed air bag and suspension all done.

New tyres arriving tomorrow so will be back on the road, will put new pads on ASAP also.

I got told by some fellow BMW owners not to touch it and send it in to BMW, I think most BMW owners are scared to touch the mechanical side of um lol

Glad it's sorted without too much fuss! Nothing beats cracking on with it yourself, just when it's a shonky old ford and bolts start snapping etc that you get into trouble!

Fuck about! Could've been nasty!

Same thing happened years ago to a mate when he was doing a burnout in his nova

Managed to shake the battery loose and it shorted the live terminal to the body, we only noticed there was something wrong when the smoke coming from under the bonnet was green and actually made your lungs burn. Blew the side of the battery out

What engines in your bm matey ? Its a 520d tourer im looking at

Im looking at one of these to replace my mondeo originally next year but been looking on auto trader and found a stunner m sport with 1 owner and has sub 60k thats tempting me to speak to the bank for the funds but i really should wait till next year.

Fed up of ford and if paying a loan on one least it will be worth a lot more than a ford even with high miles LOL i do over 20k in my car for commuting

Mines 525d but 3ltr engine mate, well as far as I've been told by PMW and others.

Not sure what a 2.0 one would be like as they're quite big cars, my freind has a new shape 5 series saloon in 2.0 and its quick but the body is all alloy iirc so lighter cars.

Kev, What do you think of Accellera tyres?

How do they feel on the BMW? I know they are budgets but my mate has offered to do me a full set for Ł220 on my Cupra R, 225/40/18.

Be interested in what you think?

Only had um on a week now mate but seem fine, I only fit budgets to my daily's as they only get used for going to work and back and even though it's motorway I am not breaking the sound barrier so I am happy with um.

Got the rear two for Ł200 fitted, 275/30/19

They look stretched as well mate, I'm sure 285 would suit better tbh.

I have a 520d se; it goes pretty well (remapped) and returns good mpg; for me it's a good allrounder for my daily. I'd rather have a 535 msport if I had the funds.

Quick update, MOT'd this week, flew through but I noticed the new rear tyres were starting to scrub already

So I jacked it up and adjusted the camber and added more poisitve as it's just an off centre bolt, will get it in to be done properly when I have time but at least it'll stop the scrub for now.

Three staged polished the BMW today because looked like a cool day, until an hour in when I sweated so much I could of filled a bucket lol

some pic's...

You think we ever get to old for fixing cars on drives? just the stubbornness of not wanting to pay BMW to work on my car lol

I developed a massive, extremely massive creak on the car last week, that loud I had other drivers flagging me in traffic telling me the car was sounding broke like I was deaf and couldn't hear it for myself!

Very embarrassing to drive like it was, after a bit of research I found another common fault and it's known by BMW as a ball joint, which it isn't, it's a bush! sits in bottom of rear hub which then connects to rear swing arm.

BMW forum use a special tool to remove bush in situ without having to place hub on a press, as that'd mean removing drive shaft from hub which sometimes seize in.

I was going to buy one then asked a few spanner friends and one had a brand new pressing kit he hadn't even used yet lol he borrowed it to me.

managed to do it after work tonight and only tuck an hour, not to bad for an old school mechanic with a bad back who now pushes pens and staff for a living lol

I had been told injecting grease into it would shut it up but after seeing removed, you can see the noise was because it was dead.

New and old -

All fixed and test driven now, I like the car again... I have hated it all week! the noise has been immense!

New rear discs and pads next, some life left in them but I want new after seeing them tonight.

That E36 looks too good to drift!! ...they're getting rare too. I'd always fancied a 328i Sport Touring but could never find one.
