Its quite an expensive and very very time consuming hobby LoL
There is quite alot of consumables
Infusion mesh ,peel ply ,bagging tape, vacume bagging film which is all throw away
Thats before your carbon , honey combe, resin and big expense the mold.
I can see why these companys charge so much for the carbon parts they produce
They must make only a very small profit on each part they make as to charge what it enitially cost them to produce the mold and part is an astronomical amount,
The only reason i have done these parts my self is no one makes them for such an unpopular car
as there just isnt the big market they need to make it a viable expense,
I worked out the other day i have around 3k in molds now,

top work!
what did you make the mould out of? the proper mould clay stuff or did you use fiber glass?
ive got some over fenders on my e30 which i want to reproduce in carbon, i was just going to make the mould out of fiberglass to save some cash.

what would you reccommend for making the moulds?

lol only today i was asked to do a mk1 fezzy bonnet i said Ł600 would cover the mold ! i was then looked at like i was from mars
when you look at the fact according to size and detail a iner and outer skin with prep can top 40 hours easily then to produce the item ect 6-7 hours with a good few hundred pounds in kit without the tools you need ! But even at 3k thats cheap youve done well

Yes i cannot belive the amount of time it takes to make the molds
But then also prepping the mould and laying the stack hours and hours
I may have been a tad conservative on my costs of the molds
Prob didnt want to scare myself LOL.
Ohh not only that
but when you have made the molds there are massive heavy and in the way
You need another workshop to keep them in

I have to check to make sure the weave is all going the same way on different molds so they all look the same on the car
I must check 7 or 8 times before laying it up holding the other parts up against the cloth LOL
