I'm toying with the idea of getting another air rifle, possibly a pre-charged type.

Anyone got any good pics of theirs and recommendations of manufacturers, spec, type, price etc?

Ive shot a Rapid 7 a few times, incredible air rifle! My uncles got one thats been upgraded to firearms spec and is ruthless! Camo bottle and stock, Such a nice rifle to shoot with and looks the part too!

What sort of effective range do you have with that? Is it set at standard pressure?

Air Arms s410 and HW100 were on my shortlist when I was looking at buying a PCP. Never did in the end - winter came lol.

The Umarex 850 Air Magnum - uses a large CO2 cart. Just easy to use, no fuss charging etc.

What would you recommend for decent accuracy and effectiveness upto 100m?

Also what is different about the rifle in the last pic to what you already have, i.e; better model or do you just fancy something different?

Question, and genuinely this isn't a dig... Whats the point in an air rifle? what do you guys use them for?

I've got a couple in the loft and my grandad has a cupboard full I believe pre charged (he uses a scooba bottle) and normal....

Always like them to look at, and very occasionally shoot, but just didn't know what to do next....

That's quite far for an air rifle without it needing a firearms licence dude, AFAIK.

All of the ones above will have little to tell them apart as far as accuracy goes, and all, at the same legal limit, will be sending the same pellet down with the same energy.

Big debate this, but .177 is the way to go, simply because the pellet will fly flatter - you don't have to be so fussy with the rangefinding. Loads of people say it will kill just the same too.

Mostly price lol.

It uses a computer to control the air fired, gives readings on how much left, you can set different power levels etc. You get more shots for the same amount of air in a mechaical rifle. Also, it's consistent - a mechanical one will be firing at less power as the air starts to drop off.



Oh, and then there are the looks of the thing - lush.

Rob, we mostly shoot in the garden at paper targets. It forces you to relax after a busy day - you have to be calm to get good shots. It's ideal for once boy is in bed and we both enjoy it.

Been a bit of a giggle when we've had parties here too - loads of people have never done it, so like the chance to. As long as I'm not to pissed to be sensible. Or shoot better than the others lol.

Anyone heard of Crosman? ive had a Crosman C02 handgun since i was about 17, forgot how much i payed for it but whenever i used it i remember it being very good i.e not hard to hit what your aiming for. Seems to remember accidently freezing my fingers/hands when putting a new C02 cartridge in

Yeah I was planning on (if I do buy one) to up the pressure a bit to increase range and then I'd get a firearms certificate for it.

I have a workmate who has his set at 28-30psi and he said it has a great range on it and lethal too, but he only gets about 20 shots until the bottle's empty (compressed air type).

what you get depends entirely on what you will use it for and how much your willing to spend.

Its an AirArms S400 .177

Great bit of kit if you don't want to break the bank! very reliable, very simple and you can completely strip, clean and rebuild it in an hour! spares are also readily availible and pretty cheap aswell as there being all sorts of customisations availible.

What do you plan on using it for?

hunting at 100m you will either need a powerfull FAC air rifle or a .22 rimfire. Sub FAC air rifles are only really effective at killing in the 30-40m range and target shooting upto 60m.

don't forget that going the FAC route comes with more costs for a gun cabinet and amo cabinet both seperated and securely bolted to a main wall etc, etc. police visit etc, etc. all the extra stuff you have to take into account when hunting with a powerfull rifle like the possibility of hitting someone walking on a path 1/2 a mile away behind your target.

Sub FAC air rifle hunting is actually a very safe, easier, cheaper and very effective solution to many farmers problems so will be easier to get permissions too.

Also worth joining some local clubs too for help and advice.

Ive a stoger x10. Its my first rifle and is very effective.

I hope to move up at somepoint. But this, with the correct sights. Has done me superb.

bsa super 10 with about 60lbs , had that a few yrs ago now , wouldnt mind a s400/s410 , nice guns to use and wont break the bank

I remember when I was 10 and I got my first air rifle. a 177 BSA diana but my
favourite one is my old 22 bsa airsporter.
I had my airsporter upgraded with x2 12fpp springs. It was difficult to load as I was only 15 but that with a combination of a flat tip hobby pellet = rabbit was going down!
Always found that with a 177 it would go through he target.

I'd love another one but wife doesn't even like toy guns let alone a real one.

got three airsporters, even got the rare carbine version with full rosewood stock, then i have my old trusty bsa mercury, used to go shooting every other day when was young, but after years of eating bunnys i got sick of them, but still love a few woodys, love bsa and all ways shot .22 but would go over to .177 now i think. will get some pics up

Think theres a pic of mine on my albums its a air arms TX200 recoiless spring gun ,I like the way springers are self contained , and prefer 22 even thou 177 have better fps but 22 have a bit more thump and I used to shoot 22 LR rim fire target guns so I just have a personal pref for the 22 , I would say the down side to a springer is weight and the piston jarring you get when fired but its not so bad on new guns and mine has none at all allso you have to use a good grease in them as this is partly there fuel , as a small amound of detonation happens in the transfer hole aiding the psi.

no interest in killing creatures as they were here before me but i do set up cans and things and take a pop now and then, currenty have a mates £100 177, my uncles used to have a modified rapid 7 that would shoot out in seconds like a machinegun. he sold it because it was set up a bit naughty and was getting some attention from people in the know
