I'll try and get a few pics of my mates mk3 polo GT. Looks like a pile of poo but at about 105bhp or so and it weighs next to nothing as stock and he has stripped it out as well means it is a beautiful little traffic light stormer! His G40 is a bit to bait to post as a sleeper although it is running 215bhp on a base map.

I think Sleeper is a term that some passionford users have trouble with...

To me a sleeper is a Factory looking car (Not a SRI GTI etc just a base model) , No alloys, No exterior mods, No huge shiney exhausts etc

Just Something special under the bonnet!

We Had an old white rusty AstraVan with a LET 15" steels with r888's on... That WAS a sleeper!

no one expects mine to have a turbo in it, as they never did a mk5 turbo
excluding cossies which mine looks nothing like. thats the only reason i would say mine is a sleeper as too look at it just looks like a normal escort with some skirts on unless you looks close and see the cooler or if you know your cars the sound gives it away.

what power is yours running they did a 150bhp rs2000 so unless you got well over 200 then id say it wouldn't really supprise anyone.

very true , its about 190bhp. i am more on about it being a turbo not many people expect the dump sound from it they always look twice when they see it.

That Royal Nail cossie van defines sleeper. Also I would consider a sleeper to be the most unstriking, standard box car with a kick ass engine. E.g. something like a fiesta mk 4 1.2 or something thats is totally standard looks wise and has a turbo'd zetec lump in it. and a hidden tailpipe and still rolling on factory 15s or something.

This was never intended to be a sleeper, it was always intended to end up having full on XR/RS looks but I've grown quite fond of the slightly modded 1.4L look.
It's given a few hot hatches a good run for their money, and left plenty modern rep mobiles for dead.

Afterwards there's been a few shocked "WTF's in that?!", and "is that turbo'd?"....
The little look of panic when I say 'no, it's not', and they think that their Type R was a total waste of money, before going on to tell them its a 2.0 16v is priceless....

But people expect it to be quick. So its not a sleeper. A 1.3 micra is as much of a sleeper as that MR2. People expect it to be slow and it is.

A sleeper has to be somethings thats surprising.

Take that MR2s engine, put in in an old shonky corolla and then you have a sleeper.

this was a van i bought purely for the engine, its nothing hot, but it did surprise a few on the drive home and yes i do know its got alloys and turbo bonnet and bumper!

There different levels of sleepers, the MR2 is a sleeper to some extent, as are many.
As people think "oh just a 150-200bhp MR2" then it blows a Ferrari in to the weeds.
So that IS a sleeper to some extent

But a 200bhp modified Mk5 Escort, a modified Audi S2, or a 200bhp XR2 with RS Turbo written in big writing on the side windows is NOT a sleeper AT ALL

But only a few on here are mega sleepers, ie utter shiteboxes that are well quick.
