Are you seriously suggesting I take an angle grinder to my rst?
As much effort as say.... body preping a car and giving it a full respray?

Well rat-look kinda goes against knowing about cars. For example, (Quite a biggy really) knowing that taking the paint of a car will make it rot, but doing it anyway.

didnt suggest do it to ur rst just get a cheap car and rat look it with unique personal touches and details etc and you will see how much effort you put in to make it look good as a rat and not just a random bag of shit

yes taking paint of will cause it to rot but how bloody long would it take for a paintless bonnet to rot thru its surface rust yea but pick up a new bonnet for 30 ish quid simple fix for that everythink is fixable and replaceable on a rat

What would you define as a random "bag of shit"?

why you dont go and by an RS model Ford and restore it to glory?

Cheers man. Yeah apart from the clutch getting a bit old and slipping.

it did make 184.6 ftlbs & 165.0 bhp at 14psi.

However, I've turned down the boost a bit to go easy on the clutch. Have a new one waiting to go in but there is a few other things I want to fettle with so I'm gonna wait till we have a bit of nice weather and enjoy it rather than sit out in the rain as the new garage is still being built.

Yeah not much fun in this weather, been doing my sills today(outside), proper miserable work to be honest. Is your garage a pre-fab? or brick? as im looking to get one myself. (planning application already granted)

sounds interesting il give it a read shortly, but just one thing, how much is it worth appose to how much you've spent.

Ive been involved with a couple of restorations(at a garage), and they didnt even earn there money back on the sale!

but i suppose if your going to keep it for some time then it doesnt really matter!

Nope no fun at all. Rapping knuckles on cold metal! argh! nasty business.
We've had to settle for a an expensive brick/stone one! as a pre-fab "wouldn't tie in with the house and the rest of the street" even though the only way you will see the garage when its finished is by walking 3 metres down the driveway!

My mate has a craking 14 foot pre-fab with a lift in it. Very good quality. Same company gave us a quote but the council said no no to pre-fab.

Car cost Ł600 initially.
Don't like to think what I have spent on it. Somewhere in the region of Ł4-5000 on rebuild parts and servicing over the last 3 years.

Never planned to make money on it though, you'd be crazy to buy an rst and try and make money on it!

yeah pre-fab arnt the nicest looking, my mate bought one off ebay for 170 i think. problem is, most pre-fabs are too narrow to get out of the car without parking passenger side 1 inch away from walls.

funnily enough where i live a few people have had wooden garages so that may be an option instead. much better than lying on my drive !!

Yeah thats the plan with this one, however its now been 3 years of the council um-ing and ar-ing about whether we can have it or not.
We we're Looking at a wooden one as we have a little workshop which is a lorry container clad in wood, sat on railway sleepers. (not permanent structure on the sleepers which soon shut the council man up when he started questioning about our "massive shed" lol), but the council planner said "if its within 2 metres of that fence and hedge" (which it was) "you will need to have it fire proofed incase the fence/hedge catches fire". Up until that point I didnt think northampton was prone to forest fires!!

Thats ok, i'm not going to ask you out on a date or anything.

I wouldn't say arrogant though. It's not that I feel I am above those that don't do as I do with cars. I just have a difference of opinion on the matter. Everything else is internet bant and if there wasn't people like me who would you piss off at car meets?

I have been on RAT-LOOK.com

The only thing I can think with alot of the cars, is how much nicer they would look with a fresh smooth paintjob. The choice of wheels and the stance of a few of the cars look great.

Was quite shocked at the ammount of cars that aren't "rat" on there.
like these:

This one is different yes, but its cleaner than my car!!

Aside from the white walls. nothing really rat about that at all.

However, this guys cars sum's up rat for me.

why have this....

When you can have this....

I must admit, I love clean oem+ cars aswell as some rat look cars. My capri is standard apart from the wheels and grille, my polo (which I just sold on last week) however was kinda rat. It was just a fun winter runner for me, its just a pity that hgf stopped me using it over the winter...

I had a 16v Jetta for a while too, didnt rat that but went kinda euro with it...

Because rat is about being different im not sayin clean gleaming cars are awfull in a couple years im hoping to pick up a supra give it a good paint job big rims chrome the engine the works on it but inbtween im just having fun with my cars modding them as cheaply as i can,

If i was going to restore a car it wouldnt be a ford, would be a old VW split screen or Beetle but that wouldnt be an imaculate job either people are different and if you arnt open minded and able to accept that its a very sad life your living, after all were not the ones telling people there cars a shite and look awfull

Craig probly wash the car same way you do except we dont have to polish them and wax them after the water n soap

I love the fact that you have come on here to bring up an old post, which basically says rat look is wank to then try and defend your cars. If you like them then fair enough, doesn't mean everyone else should.

Rat cars are cool - rat rods for example but making your car look rusty for a 'look' is fucking rediculous.

As apposed to 'Restoring' a car or doing the 'Normal' thing for a look ironic

This is exactly why I loved the wee car, it always got a reaction. Good or bad, makes no odds to me, I loved every minute that it was on the road :P x

Thats the thing mate, it not ironic really is it. My car is built as a toy/track car. If it looks lke a saph cossie it's because it is. Not because i've decided to take a grinder to it.

It does mate yes but it looks like a knackered one. I had a 306 like that and it was fine with paint on the bonnet

i hate people that want to be different do a car to how you like it not to get a reaction etc

but i like some rat cars, like these ones that have the roof rack/toe bar and you could actually use and have it for a reason, like someone said about the winter run about

i dont like all this stance stuff either, a car sits right or it doesnt, the only cars that look right with lots of negatibe camber imo is the old touring cars that had it for a reason

some of the rat people do come up with good ideas though, and some cars do look really good done like that

Would you all just SHUT THE FUCK UP! Don;t turni this into a copy of the last 'rat' thread and annoy all the vw fanboys. Some people like it, some don't! 'rat' isn't big in the Ford scene, and given this is passionFORD, you're obviously gonna get more haters than lovers.

dident the "rat look" originally start out in america with "the good ol boys" tuning the fuck out of engines in there rusty old classics which was genuine rats and rot box's and just raced them? so surely the "rat look" should be continued onwards youve got a shit looking car but oh look its got a tiny slow engine ??? put a big ass engine in and do it properly how the rat STYLE should be done!
