1 of them is a blokes who lives near me, it isn't intended to be a "rat" look, its just his daily driver that happens to be rusty.

I gave my car a matt black coat of paint. I don't think it looks right.
Still, its just going through another stage of evolution.

Hi all, just signed up. (might reconise some of you from feoc-uk)

Personaly it doesnt matter what you do to your car, if you get it wrong it will look crap!

Ive just recently gone over to rat-look, for a couple of reasons, work purposes, i dont want to drive around in some boring Escort that looks like everyone elses, and its the only modified scence that has roof rack with something on it, in my case ladders. If i catch the body with my ladder (not that i have) out comes the matt black and its like new!

Its away of just being different for young drivers who cant afford 'decent' cars. how often do you drive around and see a basic car fiesta, saxo etc, with a hudge exhuast sticking out the back?? its more common than a McD's drive through! Rat-look is a step away from the 'boy-racer'. Ive seen some rat cars that look crap, and ive seen some that are amazing, like i said before its about gettin it right!

Over the years ive spent money after money, changing air filters, wheels, exhausts, getting dent repaired just for some twat to put another dent in it! Never was happy with it, cause it was never going to be what i wanted it to be! Ive managed to turn this car right round at the cost of a couple of hours wages and im loving it! Some people like it some people dont, not that i care either way. This is my work car after all, my Mrs has a 'decent' car sitting on the drive for weekends, which i try my best to keep imaculate, so im kinda batting for both sides really!

Heres a pic of my car is she stands at the mo, personaly its the best shes looked:

Im sorry but painting a Mk6 Escort matt black, adding dark wheels, rally mudflaps and tinting the headlamps/fogs does not make it 'rat'!

Tbh it don't really fit into any 'scene'

Sorry but rat look was already played out too far when this thread started in 2008. 2 years later and they still havent learned??

Why does anyone feel the need to create a "look"?? dont you have an identity/personality of your own?? How about doing things because you want to and not giving a fuck what anyone else thinks!! Or maybe is it because too many people in our society are insecure and need to show off with thier car to gain some kind of approval from others for complying with some faggot pathetic styling trend!??!!??

You should be thinking of doing stuff cos you like it not because "its cool innit bruv"

Wel you kinda hit the nail on the head, i think the modern rat-look is about just putting your own mark on a car, which is otherwise dull. My car isnt a full-on 'rat' car but it fits more into that scene than any other. My car isnt finished yet and theres stil more to come!

I like it, its mine, it wasnt a bought project and nor is it copying the rest of the heard! I apprieciate all car scenes, cant say that any 1 type is better than another, it kinda depends on personal situation just about having a car and doing your thing on it! Like you have on your Puma by the look of it bruv. (im far from a chav by the way)

Im not trying to get anyones approval cause at the end of the day, im doing it for my satisfaction rather than others. This goes for both of our cars really, ones done cheep and quick and the other is done to the best that we can afford! Both are individual and unique!

I often think that when people get on the high horse and start slating other peoples ways, then they must have issues in their own life, just cause your not happy dont take it out on others!

Just clicked the link to your "project". I totally disagree! That was a very clean and tidy escort. Congratulations on a massive devaluation of a dull car to begin with.

For "rat look" to work the car usually has some sort of theme/colour scheme etc. Like with alot of the VW's it tends to be german millitray theme or old style wood panelling withe white walls or something there abouts for example.

You have gone for old skool JDM style yellow lights, oversized rally mudflaps, and some sort of sleek all black paint overhaul. 3 completely mish mashed styles into one otherwise std car that has no stance or overwhelming difference.

Would look better without a rusty bonnet (that actually fitted) the roof rack and the hearing aid beige interior.

Rat Look looks absolutely awesome on air cooled vee dubs and nothing else. Them 3 fiestas in the ford mag a couple of months ago look f*cking toss and that army thing wants a sherman tank to drive over it. Each to their own i suppose, if we all had the same taste it would be like kevin and perry go large where the whole street has a basic focus on the drive.
