Please HELP - Mk4 Mondeo Turbo Issue
I have a 2007 (57) Mk4 Ford Mondeo TDCI which is pushing on a bit (180k miles).
This has been my regular motorway hack for the past few years and if I'm honest, I've become quite attached to her.
The turbo has always been audible but today it stepped up its game and now emits a noise that would probably earn me an ASBO.
I checked the oil and it didn't register on the dipstick so I swiftly added 1.5 ltrs to take it to the top of the measure.
The noise is clearly turbo related as I can tickle it along without producing the noise but as soon as I accelerate it comes to life and sounds like a supercharger whining. The strange thing is that it doesn't feel like it's down on power?
Poor Mondy is getting on and it has not let me down over the years. I'm concerned that this may be the start of things so I'm looking for advice.
Scrap it now or bite the bullet and get the turbo replaced?
I'm fairly tech savvy so if anyone can guide me on how to properly diagnose this I fancy a pop at it myself.
Thoughts please...

I'm Finding My Feet Here Now
If it's been run low on oil it may the the turbo bearings whining.
I'd start with checking all the hoses for splits as they can make similar noises.
Is it whining or whooshing?

Thanks Mark.
Its a mixture of whining and whooshing (I know that doesn't help).
It sounds like the noise I used to hear from an old Polo G60 supercharger if that helps - more whining.
I'll get to the hoses tomorrow night and see if there's any damage.
