Hi guys I'm new to this forum but have been trailing through the Internet to see if there are any straight swap gearboxes for the sportka. I have a 2004 se version that I am currently bringing back to life. Although the gearbox and engine is great on b roads and country lanes its an absolute nightmare for motorways and any a road that lets you get over 60mph. The engine wants to keep going but its screaming at 3500rpm and the fuel gauge drops visibly. I have heard that the 1.7 puma box will fit but not sure if any mods are required.
Any help and info would be greatly appreciated.

Look into using a standard ka gearbox as it has a longer 5th gear. I think you could even keep your existing gearbox and just swap over 5th gear with a standard ka. I had a sportka so know what you mean, good cars though, shame about the rust!

Thats my next job.. its not to bad on my one! More cosmetic than structural. Usual places around fuel filler and small amount on sills. I'll look into the ratio difference on a standard box.
