How do i cut my mk1 firewall to fit my yb cosworth??
Hi all is it necessary to cut the firewall in my mk1 escort so my cossie will fit?.... If there is no way around cutting, then how do I start...ie..measurments etc?....I got an auto tunnel from a donor car, but really dont want to stuff this one up, so does anyone have pix of what they have done to there mk1 early mk2?...preferably an original auto tunnel, not on of those aftermarket squared off ones....any help is much appreciated....thanks

Not sure about the mk1, but you can trim the rain gutter back on the mk2.
Pretty straightforward job, plenty of guys done it, so there should be plenty of info on the old tinternet.

Thanks heaps dingla rs....if I don't cut the firewall, how close does the engine sit to the original firewall?...I've only seen mk1s with cut firewalls so I'm not to sure, are we talking millimetre?....I have an auto tunnel.... what do you mean by trim the edge off the tunnel?....at the front of it where it meets the firewall?

when you trim across the top of the bulk head remember that this is a joint seam that holds the top heater panel to the bulk head, when you remove this you will need to run a weld across the now weakened area and tidy it up with a grinder, if you don't it will separate and leave a gap between the two and will let rain water into the car and split across the front.

You can buy pre-prepared tunnels can't you? Or is that mk2 only?
