Capri Sierra Rear Axle Conversion...
I've heard of it being done, does anyone know anything about it?
When I think about it, a 2WD cosworth rear axle could work out cheaper than all the parts for atlas/leaf setup, as well as the bonus of independant rear suspesion, rear disks, lsd and bang on the rite ratios.
Some pictures would be ace for some insperation
Thanks for your help

If going to the trouble of this magnitude, there are far better set up's than a cossie rear, and most likely cheaper too, sierra rear suspension is nothing to shout about!!

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
I was thinking of similar rear end set up but probably only sierra parts il use are the diff drives and hub carriers and fab trailing arms to hang off front spring mount and diff craddle

Sierra Rear End
I am going to try it. There was a car in Classic Ford mag with it done and I saw it at Ford Fair one year. It look OK and not a bodge job. If you take your time I think it shouldn't be too hard.

I'm sure there used to be a Firm called Quickbits in the 1980's that did conversion Kits to put Mk2 Escort Running gear into sierra shells. they used Atlas rear axles on Sierra's.
I seem to remember "Fast Car" did an Article on the conversion....

Hi there, thought id post a few pics of my 2WD cosworth rear axle conversion on my mk3 capri. the conversion took a few months to do and involved a lot of measurig (and head scraching) before cutting in to the chassis legs and building a base for mounting the beam, next we cut out the boot floor and braced the chassis with one piece of steel box tubing at the back and another one where the base for the diff to be bolted to. The next thing that needed doing was new strut tops which we fabricated ourselves, and weld up the old ones.
HOWEVER, im using 18 inch wheels with 245/40/18 tyres with a slight camber and fitting some extended wheel arches, the sierra axle is also wider than the capri atlas axle, so depeding on the wheels you plan on using this conversion might not be for you. But it is well worth it as its saved me £1400 on uprating the atlas axle and due to fitting coilovers its fully adjustable and capable of handling 400 BHP.

Also done this (after copy the solution fro Realpinto),
It's a lot of work, similar to Ford nut 1988 here.
