TBH I would go for a 600. A limited 400 would be shit slow, not that a limited 600 is going to set your pants on fire.. but it should have more grunt even if it's limited to 33bhp.

For sub £2k I'd be looking at Kawasaki ZX6r, should get a pretty good J1 or J2 model for that money.. and they are a very capable bike once you de-limit it. You could also look as Honda CBR600 but they will be more money so you won't get as much bike for your cash.

HTH

a mate of mine just passed his test and got a lovely 02 cbr600f for £2k. i test rode it and they seem a good bike for beginners as you don't get the power unless you really ask for it and get up in the revs.

suzuki sv650 is also a good first bike and very light to manouvre. both of these options are also going to be easy to sell on.

I'd look at a twin like an SV 650, they ride better when they've got the 33 bhp kits on imo

Personally i'd say a cbr600f, comfy, cheap, forgiving, easy to ride, and
quick enough to keep you entertained.

Forget all the show boating and showing off to your mates cause there is nothing worse than seeing a sports bike with massive chicken strips

chicken strips look stupid on all bikes and hes a beginer so has to start somewear and a gsxr600 is a very good starter bike as for the cbr 600f is that not a tourer why would u wont one of them if you are young lol

How tall are you? You have to factor that in to the 400 category.

I'm 6ft 4 and have ridden mates cbr 4 and vfr4 but only for short periods as they are small.

Its not a sports bike the 600rr is the 600 sports bike in the cbr range and the f has a doulble seat on it bigger than most settees lol but saying that the 600 rr is another option there is a stunt ridder in basingstoke called jon jon how rides one

cbr600f's are a sorts bike just not as focused as the others thats all. In 1999 if you wanted a sports 600 you had the choice of a cbr600f a gsxr600 srad, an r6, or a zx6r which was equaliy as tourery as the cbr600f. No such thing as an rr back then

Its only been in the last few year that 600 sports bikes have became mega focused and more like track bikes than road bikes.

Why would i new rider want a full on focused sports bike that he cant ride?

Fuck it just go out and buy a zx10r c1h and have fun lol

All i can find is info on the rr being produced from 2003, i have never heard of an rr being produced that early and have never seen one for sale ever so finding one might be a bit difficult and not really a good choice for a 1st bike if he cant find one for sale lol.

There not good to learn on though are they as with them being a highly strung 600 sports bike you need to screw the cunt out of them to get them moving and need to ride them like your trying to blow them up to make good progress which isnt exactly ideal for a new rider is it.

Personally as a new rider i'd want something that is easy to ride rather than somethign that is full as to be honnest he's only likely to have it a year then get something quicker anyway.

I had a bandit 6 for a first bike and me mate had an r6 and i used to torture him down any road with a bend in it so my point being is who was having more fun me mate wabbling about down the road thinking he was looking cool and the next rossi or me on me easy to ride bike that could actually go at some reasonable pace?
