Any shielded wires must be kept shielded as this is to eliminate any chance of inteference into other signals from sensors.
11 amp wire is way OTT, the best to use is thinwall, but why not just replace the dodgy connectors at the moment, they are easy to do and not expensive, around £5 for a two way male/female, the boots are expensive for what they are so reuse the old ones.
A new loom comes in at around the £350 mark, but will be pukka motosport spec, heat sealed, and will outlast the car.
These are made by a guy who is a pro, and does these for various race teams, having worked at all forms(inc F1) of motorsport.
One of the main problems with the std loom is they suffer terribly with loss of earth conduction, a good idea is to run a seperate earth wire to the ecu earth terminals bolted onto the plenum side, this can often eliminate problems.
If you just want parts pm me, always in stock and not expensive, apart from the ecu plug(about £40), the connector(ecu part) is almost impossible to get.

Hello there my friend. i hope you're well.
I have a question for you regarding the wiring loom on the cosworth. I had a bit of a fettle with the cps plug, loom side, to increase the contact tension. It didn't cure my mis-fire, but it did have a lessening effect. So, I'm pricing up to completely replace the whole lot for new, maybe reusing the plugs, maybe not. I'll have to see how I get on unpicking the terminal ends.
The question I have is, There are 2 tri-core wires in the loom (if my memory is correct). 2 normal looking wires with the third unsheathed and wrapped around the other 2 under a larger outer (black) insulator. For the map sensor and the knock sensor I believe. What are they arranged like that for? Can I get away with using 3 seperate wires for replacing them, or do they have some kind of emf effect, or insulating effect for which I'll need to either re-use them or replace like for like?
Also, what grade of wires should I be selecting?
I'm looking at some 16 Strand Copper Conductors - 0.5mm2 11amp rated, which I think should suffice for about 85% of the thirty odd wires that come from the ecu. Am I right in thinking this, and what else do I need wire grade wise?

Pretty sure you will need a different ecu, plus lots of mods to it, AL does work very well, but I would speak to Stu at MSD and get a complete price breakdown first, as price will vary to some extent, as mild AL will likely be ok with std turbo, and possibly not need mega pricey Maram Shaft.

    hi, can you help me??
me and my mate have just fitted my 24v into his mk2 cortina as it has had a nice rebuild and has been sitting around for a while so we need to get it running, also an emerald ecu is on there, we have it booked in with dave walker for a rolling road on wed morn but have been told to get it fired up if we can.
we can't get the ecu and laptop to talk, tried to set up the tps and no joy. obviously can't ring emerald until tues morn and feel is cutting it a bit fine in case there is a problem, any ideas?
if you could call my mate or text him and he will call you, his name is mitch;07811131690 thanks, paul

hi tabetha..seeing you have a wealth of knowledge maybe you could help me?

done engine transplant .put my 4x4 engine in my 3dr(u left a comment on an earlier thread of mine)would start but run poorly found to be when i put new kent pulleys in timing wass 180 degrees out.have now put old pullys on sorted out timing.car started and run fine but would not tick over.now car will not start at all.i have been through wiring loom with a meter checking from ecu connector plug to sensors on car and checking ohms readings all ok just injectors little high(2.7-3.3).have now changed from l1 to l6 with standard blue injectors.checked gap on tdc sensor .6-1.0 all ok.phase sensor .2-.3 all ok.have tried 3 different ecu and i know at least 2 of them do work as i tried them before and after in a friends car.
any help ideas would be very helpful
