    its hard to say without hearing it myself. if the noise is from the drivers side(fan belt area) it is more than likely the crank pulley,fan belt and tensioner. there is a tsb out for this. it sounds like a rumbling noise and gets louder when you turn the air con on(puts the engine under more load).
    if the flywheel is really bad you can usuallly hear it rattling back and forth when you turn the engine off. pressing the clutch pedal can also make the flywheel noise go away as you are pressing the two halfs of the flywheel together.
    the gearbox has to come out what ever it is though.

    Hello Bryan
    I saw your comments in this forum regarding the mondeo flywheel issue and wondered if you could help me

    I have just bought a mondeo ghia 06 and had the AA guy check it out for me he said the noise coming from the driver side is probably the clutch bearing since when i depress the clutch the noise decreases but I have heard it could be the flywheel is there any way to tell which is the culprit without full investigation?
