Car insurance prices
Am I getting mugged off here, or has car insurance gone mental in the last few years?
I haven't had a modded/performance/"hot" car for a good while now, probably 10 years or so, and I lost all my NCB because I didn't insure anything for about 5 years in the mid 00's. But since insuring again in '08, my premiums haven't been cheap, and despite accruing 5years NCB, my renewal this year was £568 (£658 if choosing instalments)! I'm 32, clean license, classed as a professional driver, work for one of the biggest motoring organisations in the country, no accidents/claims/convictions, 5years NCB as stated, drive a 2L car with only 150bhp, not new, not expensive, not desirable (in terms of how often stolen) and yet £568 for TPF&T!
Did a Go Compare comparison, and ticked the fully comp box, and best I got down to was £446 from Quote Me Happy - the AA wanted over a grand! But most of the quotes were coming back in the high 500's, to low 700's.
Fuck me, I was paying £950 as a teen on my first car, and £700 in my early 20's on an RS Turbo! How can it be pretty much the same price for an IS200 ten years later?!?!
In the end I got my current insurer to match Quote me Happy, albeit with a slightly higher excess, but matched at £446 for fully comp, plus they increased my legal cover and personal injury payouts too.
Where's this sub £300 a year fully comp I was promised when I got to this age

10K+ Poster!!
Who know with insurance??? Its a mega expensive thing these days, have you seen how high some quotes are for 17 year olds these days? I've heard of 6k and more! Does seem a joke, my dad has been driving since 1975, has only claimed once about 20 years ago, drives a 1.8 Honda accord about 5000 miles a year, this year his renewal was over £480! He was paying in the mid 200s before. We told them to sod off and shopped around.

i pay just over 300 on my van and just over 400 on a kuga

Last year it was £628 (£718 for instalments) TPF&T, so although it came down by £60 this year, and I've got it down by another £122 by asking them to price match, it's still not what I'd be expecting to be paying at this stage of life and car driving... My mate is the same age as me, drives a similar car (Merc C180, bit less power and about the same age) with three points and still pays less then £500 for the past 5 or 6 years. Maybe it's my area, maybe it's because my occupation falls into the automotive industry, I dunno. But I don't even use it for commuting!

Hi,
Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.
Regards,
Dan.

Have you tried getting quotes on other stuff bud? It costs me more to insure a 1700 Puma than it would a 320bhp 3000GT, perhaps it's a combination of the car and area itself.

Before this Lexus I had a 1.4 Rover 200, and before that a 1.8 Escort Si. The Rover was £539 (£618 instalments) and the Escort was initially the cheapest at £434, with Churchill, but they wouldn't accept recommendation of NCB from my employer (as I lost mine not insuring a car while I was driving company vans instead) so that went up to £580. All the above are TPF&T

A few weeks back i was also in this dilema because my insurance company wanted almost 1k even tho i had been with them 2yrs. I am 42 yrs old with a full clean licence from day one and drive a 2005 mazda 6 TDi so nothing special about me or the car. I was telling a mate of mine about it and he told me to try a company called goskippy so i thought he was taking the piss but he said he had been with them 2yrs and never had any problems with the company. So a quick internet search got me on there site and after i did the quote it come back as £323 fully comp for the year so i took the policy straight out there and then.
In this day and age you really need to dig deep looking for companys like this if you want a cheap price but with this company they offer all the same stuff as the top insurance ppl but at a very low price.

Odd! Have you tried fully comp? That's usually cheaper these days.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
My lad's just renewed his insurance 21 years old, 4 years ncb for £865 on a Mk1 FRS, I'm 52 and pay £195 fully comp on a 2008 2.0 Mondeo, so your quotes do seem comparatively high.
Oh, and the 3dr is £150 for 1500 mile policy with agreed value

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I was paying £600 on my modded ST3
Now pay £900 (£1200 with Mrs on it) for a fucking Mondeo!
Insurance
Companies piss me right off. They NEVER give you the cheapest quote possible. They try to get more out of you.
Bunch of cunts that deserve every shit to be a hedgehog!

As I've said before, the second year I had the Cossie (1992) they wanted £3.5k to insure it. That was for a 29 year old with full NCB and no claims.

this is why I think insurers should be obliged to be more open about how they calculate thier premiums. too often you see seemingly identical drivers, similar risk profiles with wildly different premiums.
Could be anything - occupation, postcode, repair costs of your model, recent claim history of your model of car.

But stats can be manipulated to suit their needs.
Personally I think they should all be taken to courte for profiting through deciept. As I said they never give you the cheapest quote. Just an average one with loads of room to manoeuvre to make you think they are working to get you the best deal.
