Default Where do you look for insurance?

I've been using the compare websites, but everything I'm getting is daft money.

I'm 20 and wanting something moderately fun to drive, but even things like a gti-6 is coming in at £1600, £3k+ if I want to pay monthly!

Just wondering where you get your quotes?

Ben.

I always use money supermarket, due to your age have you tried adding a parent to your policy as this always reduces it a little.

My partner is 20 with one claim on a provisional licence, she has me as a named driver on our 2007 civic type r and it £1100 fully comp

I'll try that one, been using compare the market.

I've got my mum on it, but I don't think dad will be benificial as he's never owned his own car, so no NCB or anything.

Crazy, that's not fair lol, it's not even as if I'm in a bad postcode, I live out in the sticks!

What job do you do?? Being creative when describing your job can reduce the premium (don't blatantly lie)

Fitter shouldn't bump your premium up. Have you got quotes for older cars??

At 23 I had the option of

Hyundai accent 1.3 for £500 fully comp
Series 2 rs turbo £550 fully comp

You can guess which one I got (briefly till the head gasket let go) loads of people assume insurance is all based on engine size/power but it also goes on age/value of the car itself

As said, get a quote from performance direct on an RS (on a classic policy though!) and you'll be pleasantly surprised!! Granted I'm 31, but I pay £159 a year, fully comp, on my S2 RS!!

try local insurance brokers, they can sometimes get you a good deal, if you've got some time walk in and deal with them face to face they may even help you with the details that can lower the cost.

I'd like something that I can get into every morning and not worry whether it'll even start let alone get me there

I didn't think you could get classic insurance at 20? I'd love a mk2 gti, might have a look into this.

It's part of being 20 years old! You have to pay the big premiums in the early years to get the lower premiums later on. They'll probably be a decent drop in premiums after you've "proved" your a "good, safe" driver.

Try limiting your mileage to start.

The likes of Adrian Flux may be useful, or as Simon says above, perfomance direct.

I'm in my mid 30's and I cringe to remember what I paid on a 1.3 1988 Escort pop soon after i passed my test years ago!! Some guys i know went on their parents insurance, then were clobbered for high premiums years later on their own insurance.

Good luck!

Most classic policies won't start until you hit 25, sorry mate. Specialist insurers might be able to help but it's a big case of shopping around.
Try the less obvious brokers, NFU and the likes..

Good luck in your search..
