Default insurance company saying I've lost 12 ncb due to being a motor trader before! Help!

I've been told that I've lost all of my ncb and have to start a new standard policy with none!
I was a motor trader for 5 years, I total 12 years ncb, because I want a normal policy they inform me that I cant carry them over.

I wanted insurance for under 300 Im going to be lucky if its under 600.

Does anyone know anyone that would accept a letter of claim free driving from my insurance company?

Doubt it mate. I had a similar thing. I transferred 9 years cars no claims bonus to a van policy and then after the first year had elapsed they told me it was non transferrable.... so I could never use it on a car again, only vans!!!
Feckin great.

So I started trading a few cars here and there and took out a trader policy. And I use specialist/classic policy now for my fun motoring!

I just gave up the no claims when I moved the van on to my trade policy.
With that said, as anyone who has one will know. Trade policies are much crapper at covering you for stuff, and they demand proper proof that you legitimately trade cars, if you make a claim. As well as a much higher excess. So its a hassle either way!

Try PaulB at Need to Insure - Great at sorting the tricky ones out - Make sure you actually talk to Paul though.

it works the same if you take out classic car insurance, but after 2 years you lose your ncb if not using it

Lightbulb An Insurance helping hand?

Hi Rsailor,

We should be able to help with this, as we do have access to Underwriters that will be able to accept commercial vehicle and with referral Motor trade NCB.

With you having 7 years private car NCB before your 5 years trade NCB it will help to support the case.

We also have an option where the vehicle you're looking to cover has a limited mileage requirement and is a 2nd vehicle, which providing your record (ie. no running down bus queues recently) supports we can also 'mirror' your NCB percentage from the first car.

Our dedicated telephone team can be reached by calling 01277 376000 - with your NCB situation in mind it would probably be worth calling rather than applying online.

If you get some time spare we would welcome the opportunity to help.

Kind regards

Tony

Exactly right

From what we see people tend to find this out the hard way, but where we encounter this situation we are often able to convince our Underwriters to be sympathetic in recognising the claim free period driven under a classic car.

Kind regards
