Default How does insurance view steel wheels?

Hi all,

Ive got a vauxhall nova with steel wheels as standard in 13x4.5J size.

Im looking at fitting some steel wheels from a vauxhall astra that are size 15x6J size.

Im asuming I need to declare them to insurance as there still a modification but will they effect my premium much as there no more desiarable than the standard fitment ones.

Some input from the insurance company's with profiles on here would be most welcome

Cheers

Josh

You need to speak with your insurance company, as they differ, one refused to allow me winter tyres, where as my current provider doesn't mind me having any type of tyre, and if fine with different OEM alloys

Daft isn't it. Have heard of a few people having an increase on their policy for adding winter tyres

Hi Josh,

You would need to declare the new wheels to your current Insurer, as they will regard this as material information.

We're a specialist Insurance provider and providing they're correctly fitted adding the 15" wheels in place of the original 13" wheels wouldn't make any difference to a quotation with us. We also cover aftermarket modifications on a like for like replacement basis in event of damage/theft of the modified part.

Most specialist Insurance providers will adopt a similar view.

Mainstream Insurers are a little less familiar or accommodating with modifications, but if you approach them before you fit the wheels, explain they have the right offset and detail the cost to replace you should be ok with most Insurers.

Kind regards

Tony
