Default Car insurance question

Gents;

i've got 11 years No Claims Bonus, but i havent insured a car for near on 2 years. Now to stop me from losing the the 11 years, i have to insure a car by 10th Jan 2012

i dont currently have a car and i dont really need one, i use the Mrs car as and when.

now, i'm thinking of insuring a banger which i have scrapped, - is there any legal reasons why i cant do this?

err its scrapped lol

i used to get round that 2 year thing by taking it in turns with the missus at insuring our one car as i had a work van as you know.

now i have a runabout lol so it doesnt matter.

does it have to be a full policy tho, i mean can you insure something for say a month, and then cancell it and then have another 2 years to play with?

If a car is insured, does it need to be taxed or is it the other way around?

wish it did but it doesnt work like that, i insured the lexus for 3 months last year but doesnt give you another 2 years to play with

the car i scrapped was a shitty old proton which will cost me less than Ł250 for the year to insure, just want to preserve my NCB

pretty sure if its been scrapped properly and the logbook has been sent of correctly then you may have issues.

if you have just scrapped i but still have the log etc then i guess who will know?

i think you might be opening up a can of worms with that. a false statement to your insurer, a false declaration of sorn. id maybe go down the route of buying a banger for a couple of hundred quid and insuring that . do you lose the full 11 years NCD or part of it?

used to do this years ago, simply insure a car that had nothing to do with me and it was fine

even if it's scraped they just want your money

just make sure that they don't want pictures of it before you fork out the money

Can't you buy a banger, cut it up and weigh it in, and just sorn and insure it? Keep the vin plate and log book? Unless this is what your planning on doing and I have missed this!

I did this a couple of years ago when I scrapped a old discovery just so I got the full years ncb.

A insurance company wouldn't find out if you did that and I can't see any risks either.

Gavin.

Buy it and get rid same day.

/\ as long as it's not on the road or any claim go in against it, then you'll be fine
just find a full shell resto and blag them a couple of quid to keep your NCB active.

buy the cheapest pile of poo that is drivable and localish to you. Remove tags and take it for weight in and take plates off
Then sorn it and insure it with a "laid up" policy

I've got a couple of cars sitting about you could insure, they won't be going anywhere soon.

Other than that can't you insure your Mrs' car? Had no issues when I had multiple policies on a car, as said the insurance companies just want your cash.

I can see a can of worms opening if anything happened to the car while it had two policies active on it.

We know they want your cash but they are less keen on shelling out theirs and this gives them plenty of scope to argue about who pays what - and that's before the other driver's insurer gets involved.

why not insure a complete non runner moped from ebay on a sorn, you could even have a limeted milage policy! just make sure you DO NOT LIE to them but it is legal to insure a non runner just not drive it ( as it has no MOT). most insurance companies will not mind as this is effectivly a zero risk policy!
