Default Class 2/1 LGV/HGV Driver Training in Leicestershire Area?

Can anyone recommend a decent one? Google throws up a few results but just wondered if anyone on here could recommend anyone in particular.

Thanks

i just read your other post, seeing as youre not earning much at the moment i would suggest this path (im a class 1 driver by the way)

1.get your class 2 license (circa £1k)

2.buy a digital tacho card (increases youre likelyhood of getting a job as all new wagons are digi) think these are about £40

3.get some agency work (unless you know someone who owns a haulage company or youre VERY lucky you wont walk into a full time job with no experience, but from my experience agency jobs tend to last months at a time so no problem really, theres loads of work out there) you will probably earn in the region of £8 per hr on a day shift, which is usually circa 12 hrs starting at 6am (if you dont like long hrs and early starts lorry driving REALLY wont be your thing!) so youll be looking at about £300-£360 take home a week (£450 ish before tax)

4. Get a permanent job with class 2,the hourly rate will probably FALL slightly, but there is better job security etc...

5. after a year or so of keeping your nose clean, enquire about getting the company to pay for your class 1 training and license.they pay for it and you get paid to do it as its work time! mention that you would be a more valuable asset with class 1 as you are able to work with any loads they have ready to go.mention night shift as few people want it but its more cash.

6. pass your test, rejoice at the extra 50p per hour!!!!!class 1 all the way!

i work for a VERY big company, class 1 on nights and only get £10 per hour so dont expect to get rich!but its better money than youre on now,you get to listen to the radio all day, sleep on your break, eye up women on hot days, shout at crap car drivers!its a joy!lol

but youll still get treated like shit by your boss!

i know 1 company (again its a BIG 1) that pays class 1 drivers EXACTLY the same as 7.5t drivers!!! and thats £8 an hr!

the company?

XEROX!

and yeah,7.5t here is about £7-£7.50 an hr,there just doesnt seem to be that big a gap between classes, despite all the extra training and responsibility involved!

Ive been working for my current company for nearly 10yrs, I recently went for a job with wincantons who are offering £30k a year for class 2 drivers. I got the job but chose to stay where I am as it worked out I was worse off with them. 20miles to wincantons or 4 miles current employer
more petrol, have to get up earlier, get home later
If I did the same hours where i am now id be on more than what they are offering.

they max out your hours every day, really shitty work delivering frozen and ambient food and drink. your out on your own and if the client wants it up or down stairs you have to do it.

It might be slightly out of your way but Peter Smythes in Mansfield is excellent for HGV/LGV and even bus licence. They do the full packet were you can have all your lessons and test in the same week.

I do Class 2 multi drop for Brakes and earn more than some Class 1 lads, without the hassle of nights out but it is hard graft. Big money for Class 1 is not always available like it used to be, plus like already mentioned it depends were you live.

AA recovery is based near Leicester and around the 30k+ mark if you do get your Licence.

Good luck

Exactly the same as Brakes mate and some of the Customers speak to you like a dog plus if you answer back they report you to head office

Our gaffer would never back you up Mitch, they operate the Customer is always right even when they are dicks. It's true what you say though, some will make you a drink and others look like they want to spit on you.

I'm surprised at that!

My company is around £8.50 an hour on the van's, class 2 around £9.20 an hour. Don't operate Class 1 from my site but know they are on around £12 an hour. Same rate of pay for night's but you get extra's like night allowance, breakfast allowance etc which really does bump up your pay

I did my class 2 with GATT in Hinckley http://www.cylex-uk.co.uk/company/au...-14218873.html

very professional, 5 day course was all I did for just under 1k. They only have a 1 to 2 week wait time at the moment as well which is always good

Theres good n bad HGV work, all depends what you want,
I was trunking in Mancland for £9.50 on days, no work involved just drive n sing, easiest job in the world and I hated it could physically feel my waistline expanding as all I did was steer, eat n sleep.
Went working for Zee Germans on the Whitbread contract, day rate of around a 1er a day, hated the fat cow in charge and the company bullshit (we were refered to as numbers and not name, got dragged in a few times for upsetting the call centre with that), loved the job when out n about though, bit of graft but meh,
Tossed that off just before Xmas to go on the Dray at a local brewery, so far so good, really enjoying it

Some people just wanna drive up n down the country n only get out of the wagon to take a crap or open the back doors, done that n it aint for me

Thanks for replys

Big Wig - Thats the way im looking at doing it, class 2 and get digi tacho. I must have worked in 30 - 40 jobs since i left school 10 years ago, and doing multidrop for DHL on the NHS contract is the only one i miss the most ( got made redundant in 2008 )

I earn £200 a week at the moment after tax, some weeks its below that, some weeks its a fiver or a tenner over, the most i have ever earnt in my working life is £304 a week take home which was with DHL, it was the job i most enjoyed and got paid the most, which is why i want to get my class 2 and work my way up, i wanted to earn a trade last week but its going to take too long, i just want something that will give me more work and for better money than £6 a hour. id be happy with £8 a hour, there is 2 agencys by me offering class 2 drivers, one is on days at £8.40 an hour and one is £9.75 on nights, both 12 hour shifts, 4 on 4 off. I dont mind working for agency either as its all ive done in life and im used to being treated like a cunt. My gaffa at present, ungrateful doesnt come into it, we will be 10 minutes before shift end, and ill complete another order quick and book it out on the system for dispatch and he will coem marching over what the fuck you doing that for now? go empty some bins and do some housework please unbelievable! Im just sick of working like that, living in bedsits, driving a shit car.. just want more for myself and yeah i know i might only get 3-400 a week on class 2 whatever, but its easy money and working on your own once your out on the road. i used to have to unload my van on DHL at the customers premises, i dont mind that, i wouldnt like to spend all day in the cab and just get out to shit/get food/get paperwork or summet. Just trying to save money for it now. Thanks

i agree there , not the cheapest around but def one of the best , 1 on 1 tuition , proper full days etc etc

did my class 2 then class 1 3 weeks after with them

I'm getting around £8.50 for class 2 and £9 for class 1 on agency but its very quiet at min , crap work at times but its far better than driving a forktruck around a warehouse !!!
