Pretty sure my new Pectel T6 2000 and AIM dash/datalogger both have some stuff to stop even complete monkeys like me melting engines.

I trust between stu and Martooon they will sort and explain and train the monkey behind the wheel of what to look out for

Marts got alot to live upto when he maps my new ECU because your level 8 chip and closed loop sortware has been FAULTLESS stu !!!!!

Best way to setup any dash IMHO is a big fuck off light that when it comes on means "pull off the track now" and hook all the really important alarms up to that, then once you have seen it you can start looking around the dash or in the datalogs at why.
Doesnt matter why you are coming in, you just need to know that you have to IMHO porkie.

yep. totally Agree.

Sean Bicknell has told me this. He uses same AIM dash... he likes the datalogging and says it very useful and I want it as toy...

BUT he said best thing about his AIM dash is that when he is racing and 'ON' it he doesnt need to look at gauges... he has his limits on dash set at points where if the light comes on then you need to stop NOW.

as in RIGHT THIS FUCKING SECOND!!!! or engine dies!

thats how I am gonna roll....

and also obviously if red light hasnt gone off... look at datalogging and gps and video to see if there are anything else that needs looking at and modding.

Gonna get this Westy so that its BOMBPROOF. at a Trackday it needs to be lapping ALL day. start to finish. NON stop.

Lots of people need to enjoy it!

think a bigger Turbo that doesn't have to work so hard (and therefore create lots of heat) could be in order

and yes... YOU TOLD ME SO!!!!

me skyline has a power fc which is pretty cool for this. the cat light flashes when it sees certain limits. my fuel pump wasnt holding pressure last week due to voltage drop but the power fc compencated by opening injectors wider but when they hit 98 % duty it flashes a warning light on the dash
could of been nasty engines only done 1000 miles
also warns of high afm voltage and knock readings above 60

when its mapped / setup if its running say 11.6 afr then thats what it needs to be. i thought below 12 will be ok but when i asked stu he said he mapped my car at 11.6 so it needs to be 11.6.

He was massively disabled, and really quite stupid, unable to solve even very simple problems, it amazes me how many people miss this just cause of his parlour tricks with memory (which I realise were on a truely unprecedented scale, he was like a hard drive!)

I dont mean that to be disrespectful, he was clearly a very cool guy in his own way, but he demonstrates as much about the brains limitations as its possibilities and lots of people dont notice it, they see only what he can do that they cant, and not vice versa.

Our brains arent like his for a very good reason!

And yes ive seen quite a lot of media about him, very interesting subject indeed!

Im not convinced that is true, and TBH what Ive seen of savants tends to re-enforce my belief.

I beleive that information stored is filtered both on the way in and on the way out, which is why savants who have been created as a result of an accident tend to only have the mega detailed memory access from things observed or learnt after their accident and to a far lesser extent from before.

I forget his name but there was a black guy hit with a ball at about aged 12 in one of the documentaries who demonstrated this perfectly.
TOTAL recollection since the accident, but not from before.
so that implies that before the accident not everythign was stored, as he now has "raw" access to his full memory and it doesnt contain those bits.

I suspect that isnt the case, like I said i believe our brain filters things on the way in too, not just on the way out.

Who can honestly put their hands up to say they have an AFR gauge fitted in their cars here? I know some must do but it is probably one of the most uncommon gauges fitted yet probably one of the most beneficial to have. Stu, at what point of tune would you say an AFR gauge would be a wise move? Kind of a how long is a piece of string question I know but for the moderately tuned car such as mine, especially being N/A, wouldn't be as crucial as something with a turbo and big bucks spent for examaple.

I good bump Stu!

I had not seen this thread before, but I do always wonder about failures causing lean conditions..... as you say you dont know it's happened until it's too late!
I probably do a power run log once a month to make sure nothing has changed AFR wise, but a dash mounted gauge could be a good addition!

just seen this thread and its awsome 8)

one question though...

how when running in the 11's air fuel ratio do you pass the mot test as thats after a lambda of near enough 1.0??

or am i about to answer my own question by saying the mot test is done at fixed rpm and part throttle therefore the map is designed to hold the engine at about lambda 1.0 under these conditions and only runs very rich at WOT and can therefore be leaed off at part throttle??

Hi,
The logs are all done on boost, the ecu calibration runs different AFR deopending on RPM and load, that particular car run 14.7:1 at idle which equated to around 0.4% CO with about 85PPM HC's.

ah i see. mot done under no load conditions at nill or part throttle so ecu callibration runs 14.7:1 as theres no risk of high cylender temps and therefore emmisions are kept down and fuel consumption when cruising.

i find engine mapping fascinating, just which i had a rolling road and all the hardware and sotware to have a play and find the limits because where one engine may produce max power at 12.6:1 another might produce max power at 12.9:1 so if egt's etc are all ok you could safely map that engine running a little leaner for a customer.
