Are they the same?

Will a ST170 housing fit on a Black top?

yes there same, but the silvertop one is a bit better its ally.

Very rare to find a silver top with the alloy housing. Also the holes are slightly different spacing on the black top so would need on e the holes opening out.

i took the silvertop ally one off my 1800 fez and it bolted straight onto my st170 no messing with the holes.

Random, iam using a black top head and tried fitting a plastic housing from a silver top and one bolt hole was a couple of mm out

i only fitted that one because i cracked my plastic one when lifting the engine in and out doing the mtx conversion,but they have 3 threaded bosses in them for different water sensors handy if you have a after market management and a water temp gauge.

strange that your one didnt fit tho.

I "might" have a spare alloy housing mate.....

I will have a look and drop you a text, i know they were pretty rare, but the engine in the MK1 deffo has one, and Im 99% sure I have a spare!

Difficult to make out the markings on it from these pics. Can you supply the part number? I need one of these housings and the local ford dealer can't seem to locate without part #s

My local Ford dealer says that part number has been superceeded by the newer plastic type housing now
