I've had a 1.8 16v....... then I got a mk2 Golf GTI 16v

I thought the Golf was crap compared top the Clio

I'm a big VW fan (got 2 mk1 Golf's)...... everyone rave's about the mk2 Golf 16v been "the best Golf"

I thought the Clio handled & stop far better than the Golf...... seemed quicker too

I'd deffo have another 1.8 16v & I'd love a good Williams 1

1.back arches rot out on them
2.ELECTRICS
3.gearboxs, check for whining/crunching thru the gears
4and as said good history checking specifically for gearbox history/ cambelts as they are a pain, and only the pahse 1 williams came with a plate saying the build number hope this helps

I just spunked myself

Can i ask how much you paid for it?

Love the Series 1 wheels on Clios and R5 turbo's

If you are getting a valver, dont pay much for one, you dont need to.

Other than me monstering my way through a few gearboxes mine has been faultless and only owes me about a grand and over half of that was on the tyres (one set of paradas for wet days and one set of 888s for dry days)

They arent dear cars, there is no need to spend loads of money on them, only the williams are worth extra.

The one on 5th gear was mint, they said its worth 10k, i cant see that at all!

My brother had a 16v back in the day, was awsome, and my mate recently sold his williams 3 for under a grand, was a heap of shit though!

So whats so special about the williams,is it just because they were doing well in F1.

It started out as a limited run of 400 cars with numbered plaque's on the dash, however Renault spoilt the exclusivity by releasing the Williams 2 and Williams 3 in subsequent years

The Williams had a wider front track, 23mm wider iirc, from end compared the the ordinary Clio 16v, it also had a closer ratio gearbox, although 5th gear was the same in both cars iirc, the 2ltr engine was a lot better as it had a longer stroke crank meaning more torque and response was vastly improved, the head had larger valves and better cams, it also came fitted with a tubular 4-2-1 manifold compared to the 16v's cast 4-1 manifold.

Oh and they were all 'Williams' blue colour with different interior to the original 16v.

Great little cars, mates got a Valver - We were out and about one night when the bottom end went. Been off the road for a while, coming back like so...

Forged Williams engine
T3/4
Piper turbo grind cams/verniers
Brembos
WON Nitrous kit
172 Gearbox
etc etc

Should be a giggle!

I bought a williams a few years ago and must say it was the most fun car i ever had. great fun and regret selling to this day.
Buy and enjoy.
And drive the ring out of it. Most parts are common with a lot of other renaults.

Oh I dunno, the Renault isn't THAT much less reliable than the Ford.
