i was there sat,by the fence where the xr2i rolled..........
![]() still thinking about it got a trailer and van........i know its not the norm but mg zr 1.4 16v is in the rules and you are allowed to run forged pistons and cams and you can make them handle..........just the parts are easy to get hold of and salvage cars are cheap as chips....... some one has to come last......lol |

The road going MG would not be cost effective.
You would need to buy a set of race suspension, race springs, race seat, race harness, emergency cut off's, rain light and extinguisher etc. This kit would cost more than the 1500 quid for a XR2 which has already competed in the stockhatch series and has all these items. Buy mine for 1500 and get on the grid for Mallory or Silverstone Bob |

Bob if you had the funds could a mg be competative? i was thinking of getting one and spend some good money on one for maybe next year or have a tester for maybe 2011? i dont want a saxo i want to be different, money aint too much issue and MG ZR look ok aswell. Also bob have you got any interior pics of your car?

i just wanted to try something a bit newer and a bit different my dad was the first person to use a mg magnet as a stock car back in the day and was told it would not be fast enough, that was untill he led the world championship for 38 laps untill his wheel came off ,my uncle had not done it up properly and my dad never spoke to him again!the next week my dad said there was about ten mg magnets on the grid........
,not knocking the xr2,but rover spares are plenty down here...........i had a conversation with a salvage dealer and he was begging me to take some cars for scrap value as he had around 20........

maybe, i think the mg is a underated.........just got to have a e-bay week and have a clear up.........what i think is good is most rover 25s are low miles and owed by grandads so should last a good thrashing.........got to get some sponsers have 2 ,told someone else wants to back me and thinking x part may have interest....cheap advertising for them......

sorry guys, been away this weekend.
my xr2 has the standard ford cam that it came with it in the cvh engine. i know you can use one of the designated replacement kent cams but these are not uprated ones so i dont use one as the originals are still easy to find. a race cars performance in purely a matter of power against weight assumimng the car you have chosen can be made to handle correctly with race suspension and camber/tracking adjustment. consider the following....... xr2 mkII stockhatch weight 831kgs, power 95bhp, gives 114.3bhp/tonne saxo stockhatch weight 910kgs, power 125bhp, gives 137.4bhp/tonne mg zr 105 stockhatch weight 940kgs, power 105bhp, gives 111.7bhp/tonne straight away you can see the mg is at a disadvantage compared to the xr2 yet alone the saxo. to be fair i have used the bhp figures that are obtained on racing engines for the xr2 and saxo whilst the mg figure is as delivered from the factory. with some legal work you might possibly get th mg up to 115bhp but that would still give it only 122.3bhp/tonne which would be enough to beat the xr2 but its a long way short of the saxo. using a 6 year old car like the mg to beat a 23 year old car like the xr2 won't bring much fame for the mg driver. to be fair i don't want to discourage anyone from joining stockhatch or any other from of racing, its just newcomers should learn from their fellow racers and get into the series as cheaply as possible before considering a more radical and unusual approach such as using an unproven car. any new build car will need a set of race suspension, race springs, race seat, race harness, emergency cut off's, rain light and extinguisher etc. This kit would cost more than the 1500 quid for a XR2 which has already competed in the stockhatch series and has all these items. the hill climb car mentioned in the above postings could be suitable as it is if the engine is standard and the bodywork is completely standard. even if not then it would be a good basis as a start to make it a stockhatch racer. my car (orange xr2) has a current V5 and could be road legal if i took it for an mot and taxed it. its SORN at the moment but there is no reason why it would not pass an mot. the ride would be a bit hard on the road as the suspension is tarmac race setup and the ride height might be a bit low for some of the larger speed bumps you see around. bob |

Bob i see what your saying! but just looked and you can run a emerald ecu on mg and after speaking to someone in the know about rover engines and Dave is a specialist when it comes to emerald and rover engine ive been informed with good blueprinted engine and CR just right on the emerald you could see 130bhp no problems, i think in the right hands the mg could be suprising, im one of these people who love to be different. I do love my xr2 and going to maybe give next year a good crack with the xr2 also, im going to spend the last 5 races this year to get good feel of the championship most likely following you about

yes, as i said in my previous note 94 to 95 bhp is about right for the xr2 so at least you know yours will be in the right area compared to the other stockhatch xr2's.
i will probably be at mallory so come and say hello this time. bob |

my helmet was 300 quid and was the best i could afford at the time, you only get one chance with your head!
look on ebay for a race suit. i found one that had been worn twice and got it for 100 quid including the postage. race suit sizing is very small so be careful what you buy if you have not tried it on. for example the demon tweeks chart said i needed a size 54 but it was way to tight for me. the size 56 fitted fine even though the chart said it would be to big. its not just me, many people have mentioned the same problem to me. with helmet, gloves, suit and shoes you should be around 500 quid if you shop around for good secondhand items with the exception of the helmet. bob |

The shoes do not have to be FIA approved, you just want something with a good fit and a nice soft sole to feel the pedals properly. The helmet does have to be FIA or Snell approved, I think its Snell SA2005 or FIA 8858-2002 approved. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/produc...code=OMPSC722L This is the one I have, well I have its previous model, it has a wide opening and the peak to keep the sun out of my eyes. Shop around as there are cheaper ones and better places to buy from than Demon Tweeks. Don't buy a cheap motorcyle one as they are heavy, have a narrow eye opening and come with a visor which is not required in a saloon car. Bob |

dont know if this is true but was told by a mate that they are changing rules on crash helmets next year,i saw some of the lads using motobike crash helmets at brands,i thought you could take your crash helmet to the officals and if it was okay they would sticker it,they used to do this anyway.
