Default The decline of passion for fords

well i speak my mind so here goes

after reading through my thread regarding the siera, i have come to a conclusion

passion ford is now full of people who fucking hate fords, so why the hell do you come on here? is to just simply slate them and feel better that your own bmw is a dull boring drive

I agree with what youre saying... It pisses me off.

I would much prefer an escos to so many cars and ive had a lot.

(other than an escos lol)

Ive had 5 saphs and im a fan but they are getting really dated now. But for me nothing beats an escos.

There is no way i would take an M5 evo fq or any subaru or Gtr of equal value over an escos.

And i dont think that will ever change for me...

Until i buy one Lol.

whether it breaks a lot or not. they are not supposed to be daily drives in modified form.

Add over 50% of an m5s original power to it and see how reliable it is.

Also have a work out how much it would cost to do it compared to a cossie.

Then realise that no one cares about M5s and dont even bat an eyelid when one passes in the street.

To me an M5 is a nice quick luxurious daily driver.

nail, head. reliability depends upon how well built, looked after & driven a car is. im sure m5's ect wouldn't be anymore relaible than a cossy if the original power output was more than doubled & it was used & abused daily. im not to sure i really fancy bmw's hourly labour rate either

Exactly!

I love Fords, loved my Cossie so much I spent I'd guess well over £15k total, making a car worth around £5k in bits

When it worked and when I overtook Ferraris and similar on track it was all worth while.

Sadly having owned an Evo I now realise my enthusiasm for my Cossie was misplaced.

I still fancy an Escos, but not having the money to own one or fix one, I've got to stick with the Evo.

I still have a Passion for Fords, I also though have a bigger passion for Evos at the mo.

I still like the cars, and the people on this site are why I'm still here

Si

Having amassed a collection of every major UK Ford publication from issue 1 to the present day, and almost every Ford UK Brochure from 1958 to the present day, and a vast array of models and memorabilia, and spent almost £60k so far on a run-of-the-mill Ford that still looks like a heap of scrap from some angles (even if it doesn't have a Ford engine! ), I'd like to think I still have a bit of a passion for Fords.

I love my fords every time i stray away to french or german or anything else i always end up going back to what i love and know best FORD, i have had 12 mk 2 xr2's, 1x sierra xr4x4, 1x mk4 xr3i, 2x mk3 xr3i, 1x mk3 xr3, 1x sierra 2.0 glsi, 2x fiesta rs 1800, 4x fiesta rs turbo, and am now on my 8th escort rs turbo s2, so you could say i love my fords. give me a ford saph cossie or escos over a scooby, evo, or m5, m3, any day of the week, you always get looks in a cossie or a nice rst.

Well lets put it this way then.

My last evo was an evo 8 fq 340 and to be fair my second 360hp saff was quicker and more exciting, Although it obviosly didnt have the handling.

An escos as far as ive heard has the handling.

So combine the two and i wouldnt want anything else.

Thats my passion for fords!

Some of the dwindling interest (bit strong as I reckon there is still a LOT of interest and a very strong "scene") may be due to the fact that Ford hasn't really produced anything with a major "wow" factor for quite some time.

As people have pointed out, people will break their necks to get a glimpse of a Cossie on the roads, whereas they wouldn't for an M3/M5/Scooby/Evo etc. But they would go for those over a Focus ST/Fiesta ST/Mondeo ST220 and such like.

Ford's run-of-the mill cars are far better built and nicer to drive the 15-25 years ago, but there's not really been anything in the range to go crazy about and capture people's imaginations since the Escort Cosworth really. Maybe, and hopefully the new Focus RS will change that. The signs are promising anyway.

Quality thread!! I 100% agree with the above!! Ive got a 2wd saff and I work for Audi...I have driven every car that Audi make and although thet are 'nice' to drive when I get back in my saff to go home there is just something about it that makes it more of an enjoyable car to drive!! dont get me wrong the Audi's build quality is second to none as is the reliability, comfort, etc etc....but just all a bit boaring. The top end stuff, RS6/RS4/R8 etc are the bollox but could never afford one.

Great thread...fcuk all of the nonce's on here!!!

I still love fords... I have driven many cars, and some really nice cars... but I must say my favourite has always been the Escos. I think as I grew up in the 80's 90's in the Nam, Fords were a massive part of my life. Obviously where the cars were built, and family members working either at the main plant or main dealers. As a kid I aspired to own a Sierra Cosworth as they were the bad boys car... how many were being nicked!! But when I learnt to drive only Xr or Rs Turbo money was available to me. I remember seeing a magazine when I was on a family holiday to Devon of the new Rs2000 Escort in black... It was so nice, and I was a kid in a dream when my dad ordered a brand new red one k433CAR..me and my brother use to volunteer to clean it for him all the time.. spent hours washing and waxing it... When I saw the photo of the new Escos in a magazine I knew I had to own one, and vowed that as soon as I could I would buy one.. So I did. Although I have owned the car for 8 years and has only really been on the road for a year or so.. I still love it. I think fords and especially the Rs models keep a part of my child hood alive and also memories of family members who have now sadly passed on .I have vowed that come the summer, I will be buying another one ( one that is already on the road )... I could have any car within a £25-30K budget but my heart is always with the Escos and the blue oval.

For me, newer cars just don't have the inate 'rawness' of the mid/late 80s cars. New enough to have the modern things like ABS, electric windows, 5-speed box, modern injection and ignition for reliable starting/running................but still with a bit of soul in them . If they hadn't made the Sapphire/3-door Cossie I'd have something like the E30 M3/ Merc 2.5-16 in my garage...................but I went for the faster car
The Sierra has enough "build quality"/gadgets for me, nothing falls off in daily use and I love driving it.
I've had newer BMs etc as a daily runner...........but they don't interest me as much as my old Ford

I really do miss not having a cossie, its been 2 years since i sold my saph and must admit theres been a few decent ones for sale at good prices and im tempted but i just dont have a garage to keep it in and im only about 30 ft from the sea and would kill the poor car.

I am considering at the moment buying an M5 when I get the money together for one but I will be keeping my 4x4 Saph as well.

I love the look of a nice cossie and, personally, prefer the looks of a cossie over anything that has been produced over recent years and I think that they are more fun to drive too.

I want something that is reasonably quick in standard form, comfortable and reliable too for when the saph's not out to play so I think an M5 is quite a good choice imo. Plus I fancy watching a bit of tv when I'm out!

I am still and always will be a Ford man deep down though!

even though i dont own one i was very happy with my cossie i wouldnt dream of getting on the high horse now i own german (which is shit lol) cossies are just that bit more special than all the modern stuff you gotta show them respect imo

I haven't gone off them, I'm just having a break for a year or so while I procreate and give the wife ALL my money. I'll be back in another Ford next year, although it won't be a cossie. Something ALOT cheaper as this having a baby lark is REALLY expensive

When my Avensis is paid up I'll go buy a Focus ST on HP, thats assuming HP still exists in 2 1/2 years

i agree 100% with this, at the end of the day its a ford forum if you dont own one dont come on here to cause shit

i understand people buy fords, join upto passion ford and move on and still come on here to speak to the people they have met through the scene but dont come here saying there not as good as evos etc... winds me up

fords are deffinatly about the passion and the ups and downs or owning one, its much more than a car imo

its fords fault though,,, THERE the reason for it, for over 10 years they never made a decent car to go against the competition,, this means that now there newer cars that ae the same as old cars,,,, what would you go for

if they carried on making decent cars for the same market then we would never have moved away but lets be serious now,,, tell me a DECENT ford made from 1996 to 2003 that would be fun to drive,,,, now what other cars ARE made in that period

we drive this cars as there cheep,,, when they start hitting 100k miles they no longer become cheep to run,,, and asking for a old 100k car with rust issues every MOT and parts no longer available and WELL over priced second hand worn out shite,,, WHO with a decent level of sence would choose that option

the focus RS was made for a year,,,, though not exactly a "cossie" but more a over priced ERST

its nothing to do with a hate of fords, its just moving with the times,, i now email people rather than send letter,,, i pay for stuff with my bank card so never carry more than 10 quid cash on me, i no longer am impressed with a 17ins monitor taking up 1 half of my desk

its called moving forwards,, im guessing thats why we no longer ride on horse back aswell as my little girls LOVES horses,, but she gets driven to school due to practicality and the costs involved for my needs

when ford release the new rs,,, the carry on with newer models like before then we will be buying them second hand ( which is what 90% of us forum members cars are as they are much cheeper) and then the ford flag may fly again,,,, sorry but the escort GTI or focus ST170/ mondeo st220 was never gonna follow the same footsteps of the cossie,,,

the car market for me was XR3I,,, whilst wishing to afford a erst,,, then i got a xr2i as the erst;s where still fetching 5k, then when i got a erst i wanted a convertable witha erst engine ( at the time now fetching 4k) then when i got that i discovered i could now afford a cossie,,, i got a cossie,,,, then the jump from a saph cossie to a escort was 10k,,,,, sorry but tahts 3 times the price of a saph so i stayed with a saph,,, escorts stayed too high for me then imprezas came down to CHEEPER than a cossie,,, but newer,, cheeper parts available and,,, well a newer car so thats where i went

10k for a escort cossie with a 4k engine rebuild plus the stupid prices for parts,,, all gonna be second hand is the option again now for me

sorry but the impreza fits my bank balance needs which i have to offset against my fun needs

10k now buys a M5, leather seats, climate, 400bhp STANDARD in a car that less than ten years ago was 60k to buy,,, 60k super saloon car with over engineering OR a ford escort with the interior build quality of a renaul clio ??

you REALLY think its someone against the cars,,,,,, or that times have moved on

my neighbour owns a dolomite sprint,,,, he recons it was te cossie of its day, spent a fortune on the car,,, proper fortune too,,,, but i wouldnt own one over a cossie

ginge i can see what your saying but vauxhalls are just as old but you dont see this kind of talk on migweb if someone joined there and said i have a M5 and your vauxhalls are shit mines better because it a BMW they will be fucking band

Yes im not alone.I love my fords and know they arnt the best cars in the world but they have made some really good ones and they have a mint racing/ralling heratage.Ive only had fords since i past my test too,ive also driven other cars too.I do agree with Ginge,if ford had brought out some interesting cars more people would of stuck with them.

im with fuzzy,, though i would be pmsl

as said i love cossies,, i love my tennis cabrio even though I HAVE NEVER EVEN DRIVEN IT !!!

i also would love to own a big house with a garden and a garage but the reality is its gonna cost more than i can afford,,, id have to work harder to gain no benifit of using it as much as i use my flat/use my impreza now

maybe ill get another cossie,, but its now like any other classic car,,, bonnet open working on it all the time getting dirty just to have a few moments of fun with it for the endless hours of heartache
