I love my fords and i love my cossie but i sometimes think do i just sell it and get a modern, boring car to use.If i had thousands of pounds my cossie would be mint.I also like other cars like BMW,S VW,s but i just love my fords.I know they arnt the best car in the world but they just have so much sole and i love the heritage of ford.

My 2p worth

Most the people on here who now own bmw's evo's etc still like there fords but have realised that there just not as good an everyday car as say an m5 or evo. Personally if my old saph was as reliable as an m3 i would still have my old saph as i love cossies(well except escorts) I can still appreciate them for what they are even though i take the piss and wind people up a bit and that probably goes for 90% of passion bmw. The problems arrise when people have there ford blnkers on and argue black and blue an escort cossie is a far superior car to an m5 just because they love rs's and have never owned either.

I love my old girl but dont kid myself its anything more than a 20year old Ford, however it also has a Cosworth badge .

You carnt compare an old ford against a modern evo which has miles better technology. But imo the escos looks a better car.

This site is more of a community than anything else in my eyes. Loads of people who came on here owned fords and have moved on with time. However, they still like to come on and have some banter with their mates. It is the strangest car forum, in that you can ask about how to fix your kitchen sink and lots of people on here will have had the experience and the skills to tell you what to do.

I still love cossies, however most are not really in the right condition. Yet, u get the odd escort cosworth or 3dr that is just a beauty. No slagging from me, even though I have moved on and not owned one since 2002.

It is the people and the passion for motors that keeps me checking this site.

Cheers

RW

If it wasnt for us lads and lasses who owned these fords the ford scene would be dead. When you go to shows like classic ford and ford fair it makes you think that there are still alot of people who love there fords.

someone i know builds race caterham 7's and i used to race with him when i was young,he said i could have all engine parts he has to get me out racing a caterham for nothing, just cause i used to make him laugh when i lapped everyone twice.......i was told off for breaking the lap record every lap......which has stood for 20years.

I love cossies and always well but the reality is that at castle combe on saturday when I was watching them Si B was lapping quicker in his fast road evo on road legal tyres with a full interior than Martin Hadland was in his massively modified escort, the evo is simply a better car, its not anti ford to say so, its just accurate.

i agree, but i also think theres a lot that think a cossie is the best thing in the world and everything else isnt worth a thought.

cossies were good in their day but are just 'alright' compared to a modern equivalent.
theres no way id be going out paying best part of 20k for a decent escos when for that i could have a 'jap crap' alternative with 600bhp+ and can easily understand why people turn to M5s etc.

though, saying that id still do some naughty things for a 3dr as i think theyre iconic cars and have always wanted one from being a kid and dont think coming on slating cossies (and fords in general) is acceptable.

Thumbs up ~ Oh Yeah ~

Yup ~ Coming on here Slagging Off fords is Wrong ~ Moral Observation ~
So, should there be "legislation"(rules) against this maybe a warning
leading to a ban by a coupla selected modz for repeat harsh/offensive PEOPLE ?
As for the debate "is a Ford better/as good as bm/mitsi/sub" That is Not the POINT
The Point of the First~Poster is about People coming on here to slate Fords
Sadly Car~Modding has been the pastime of Arrogant~People for a
Looonnnggg~Time ~ and as the chap with the Supa~BM Estate cossie funnily observed,
Its to do with Promulgating (Spreading) the Idea that their equipment is BIGGER
Since so much has been said about Ford vs
I would like to say something that has not been said, why does it have to be Escort cosworth vs ?
That is Silly ~ most people cannot afford (park outside!) one ~ and many have more powerful
Mark3/4/5 Escorts (none~cosworth) that are Fine~Motors
No, my point is what about ~ RS vs No not one Motor Company has EVER Consistently
Produced Rugged cult~like followed cars as the ~ RS ~ Think of the list RS2000 RS1800 RS1600
Fiesta Escort Sierra Focus all the Variants Turbo none turbo..
Don't you dare Underestimate the ~ RS2000 ~
in Mark 5 and Mark 6 guise, they are Happily~Owned long~term by masses,
What about Rally~Success, no not ONE manufacturer has Consistently produced such vehicles ~
It will NEVER be Surpassed...

how about comparing a 20 year old ford to a similar car from a different marque, subaru were making pick ups for farmers, bmw were making underpowered but good handling e30 m3s which still sell for upwards of 5k which i find unbelievable.people love cars from any era and its personal choice, you cant compare a 3 door to an e46 m3,theres at least 23 years between them, but give the cossie some up to date mods and it will keep up with it.

I wouldn't disagree but it was fun to watch that white 3-door chase Si B round on it's 20+ year old suspension design ( even if it was an extra 100 or so bhp ). I think he was the first to admit he was surprised by it.

Just as an aside, did anyone manage to overtake the V8 MGB GT?

So to summarise, IF you like like old fast fords and either dont mind or enjoy the maintainence side of it, buy one and enjoy it.

If you dont like old fast fords or no longer enjoy them and all the baggage that comes with them, dont buy one.

I still want an Escos

I wish i had seen that 3dr chasing the Evo.I can remember a few years ago at the rs show at croft when there was them 2 evo 9s on track and there was this little yellow nova. The yellow nova was all over the evos and the evos couldnt catch the nova.It was very entertaining to watch.

i didn't start this thread for arguments etc. Or to even ask what the better car is, i just think its ironic how people on a ford site seem to slag them a lot.

Twas good to watch and does illustrate what the cars CAN be capable of in the right hands.

I think sometimes though, for some of the hobby cars, the more times they have been pulled apart and re-assembled ( sometimes in a rush ) the more opportunity there is to create a scenario for something to come loose and cause a "breakdown". Don't think they are intrinsically any more unreliable than any other car of that age - certainly when they ran them in mags as new cars the long-term reports only indicate stuff like misfires, replacement power-steering reservoir caps, wheel balancing etc. There was a batch of head-gasket failures early on in the 3-doors but I think most manufacturers can have an episode like that ( VW ignition coils, BMW Nicasil engines etc ). They did quite well in things like the 24hr Willhire races.
Now they are old cars, old wiring etc. - you can buy more ability and newer metal for a lot less than an RS these days so if you just want something to go fast in your money is better off with a newer standard Subaru, Mitsubishi, BMW or similar.
I did notice at Combe that other makes had problems and had to be trailered off ( not scoffing at people's misfortune here by the way ) but I did notice when the black 3-door expired just after Quarry I heard remarks like " it's a Ford, what do you expect!" but didn't hear similar when the Mitsi EVO and Merc C320 were towed off.
I suspect if a Skoda had gone wrong it would have enjoyed similar remarks though as a reputation often endures!

spot on, they are new enough to have all the fancy stuff but still just simple, engine/gearbox/back axel cars, which makes them far more about the driver and what he can do with em

i watched a 3door, an evo and a caterham race round and they wasnt holding back , they was on it, yet the 3door is over 20 years old and has to be driven by the driver not through a computer.

im only young and i love fords, i dont think there is anything better than a escort or 3door, my dad likes em, my borthers love em and i should really like evos and scoobs (the newer generation) but i dont, to easy to drive, to many about, will dye out and be forgotten in years to come. just my opinion lol

No mate, I assumed you had some issues, after all Lee did a 1:13 in an arguably lesser car, but that doesnt change my comment on the day, cars have to be reliable to be quick after all

What sort of laptime do you think your car has in it if its working correctly then mate?
Reckon you can get down under the 1:10s with the evos on slicks?

i suppose as a BMW owner i will have my say and probably get shot down.

I always owned fords from my first car to my last car however i was put in a situation where i needed a reliable daily driver and my RST was simply not that and was gutted to sell it. so i bought a BMW and i agree it does not have the driving thrill my "old" fords had. the case is fords have there plus point but so do most other car makes.

I have never slagged someone elses ford off saying my BM this....etc

i still love my fords and when i am in a situation to buy another i will, but can we not all accept that we are all car enthusiasts and enjoy the positive things this site provides for all its members (knowledge, info, banter, community etc)
