Just looked up the specs for the gauge - its says 2 seconds interval per channel... is that sufficient for monitoring purposes ?

You run it into a container with the fuel pump relay bridged, but to me, its a pretty poor test.

And this is nudging me to get my car back to you for a set-up Stu...it's been just over a year and around 5-6,000 miles since Kenny mapped my red 1800 ZT Fiesta and it was a little rich for the MOT last month and smells it too. No problems with it whatsoever, but wouldn't mind everything being checked with the correct instrumentation

P.S. From experience Stu, what sort of life would you predict for a sensor such as the one supplied with the Dynojet kit if it were to be left in the exhaust and powered every time the car was driven, say 3,000 miles a year, rather than being installed and powered for the odd check-up run only?

Hard to say fella, but i tested mine against my PRO one recently and its done the last 6Kmiles with no problems whatsoever mate.

The sensors for this unit are quite reasonably priced too, around Ł50 from memory.

Ł50 isn't bad at all! Thanks for that, I had images of ratio displays going haywire after two months' use, but they clearly are intended for long-term use like this I guess you should be able to expect a year or so of a lambda sensor on a dyno anyway.

the sensors are OE fitment on many turbocharged vehicles from VAG and are made by bosch - so they are pretty reliable if not abused

i have to admit defeat due to bafflement at some of the numbers and words used in here

can anyone explain this in a simple way?
or is it too complex a subject to cover in a single post of less than about 5 million lines?

the reason i ask is that it seems to be a nice bit of kit, and, from what i can figureo out, you drill a hole, weld the boss to it to take the lambda and then just fiddle with the setting on the box (assuming everything comes with the kit right?)

but wouldn't you need to drive it about a bit to see what you were getting first before setting the box up to flash at the strange numbers?

i do understand the bit about the afr being different on the road as opposed to being on a dyno but it's all the numbers that are making my head hurt, is ther a safe set of paramiters to run the basic set up at and then get it checked over by someone who knows what they are doing? will it be set at these right out of the box?? what if i don't have a lap top? does that render the kit useless? if i am to run it on a V6 do i need 2?
etc, etc

cheers in advance

one more thing, afr, what do the numbers mean?
assuming that the first number is the air and the second is the fuel right?

it relates to the MASS of each quantity. Example, 12:1 means that your engine is consuming 12kg of air for every 1kg of fuel.

Urs is in lambda. Multiply the numer in urs by 14.7. eg 0.85 x 14.7 = 12.5.

A little lean imo.

sounds like fun then
so if you see figures outside certain paramiters you should be stopping and doing stuff like not giving it large out of side roads yes?

do the numbers have to be within a set limit for all engines or would you have set paramiters for each individual application?

after the recent rolling road day i noticed i had a fuel pressure drop of around 10 psi , so ithought ill fit 2 pumps as i might be asking to much from one standard item . Well i fitted the second one then found the fuel pressure was dropping worse .So i set about checking voltage at the pumps it was low so rewired it (thaks diva ) for the advice but still no change! so after the usual fucking cossie bunch a shite monkey shagging wreck abuse i spoke to stu first about it he said check the regulator and said he could have a new ford item with me in the morning but pete rs specailists had a aftermarket jobbie on the shelf so opted for that after hearing that cossie ones can be a nusance .

Anyway good job i did as turned up the reg to see what happened to it at idle. so i got it up to 60 psi and it leaked fuel from the body badly and by all account it has been like it for ages ive had to remove up to 20% off the boost fueling on the map due to the fact it was compensating badly for my knackered fuel system

so as stu as warned about the pump and voltage im warning you about these issues and if its a toss up between a new stereo or some gauges get yourself a afr gauge and a fuel pressure gauge as it will save your engine

Hope your still enjoying the old girl mate? i loved that car.

The warning settings on that controller were very very closely set and it was actually possibly to get her to just flash a 12.3:1 alarm as the boost climbed at a certain RPM in cold weather, i forgot which, but ignored it as it required a whole set of parameteres to all come together in one go, which was rare and would never create a damaging problem, so rest easy pal.

It is of course worth doing a 4th gear run in all boost settings just for peace of mind, or, if you want me to give her the once over one day, feel free to give me a call and book her in for a couple of hours. Would be great to take her for a little play.
