is there not enough room to slide them out the bottom, between crank journal and block? don,t want to take the head off thats all

no, it's the main crank bearing castings in the block that overhang the bore and stop pistons coming out of the bottom..

depends on how bad the detonation damage is might be able to take them out along with the oil
